Gone at UCLA at midseason. Loss to Belmont did not help. Curious where he will end up.

Alford is a real scumbag, particularly after the player rape cover up when he was at Iowa. His dismissal was long overdue, and they should be winning consistently with all the talent in SoCal.

The book on Alford has always been, great (cheating) recruiter but not a great coach.

Never heard Alford connected to cheating, but you're closer to the sport than me.

I wonder if Bryce might show up as a candidate for this job?  He's certainly shown the ability to recruit at Valpo and Vandy.

My guess is they'll go after Nevada's coach hard (apparently the UCLA AD had a meeting with him in Vegas while Nevada and UCLA both had their tournaments at the same time).  Not sure who else they might go after.

Can't imagine Bryce would be a candidate.  No West Coast ties, and UCLA has a strange culture (kind of like Lakers light), where they don't want to just win, they want to be a show while doing it.  Don't think Bryce would fit in well in that atmosphere, IMO.

Remember UCLA had a Valpo spot with Gene Bartow. Does anyone think that the UCLA program will progress to national championship caliber, given their intensity, with a coach of faith like Bryce?  Ah...... doubt it.

They will go after a souless recruiter with a personal agenda.

I hope Indiana is smart enough not to bring that scumbag back.

VUGrad1314

Why would Indiana cut bait on Miller or do you mean any school in the state in general?

valpo64

Indiana  never wanted Alford when they had a chance to get him anumber of years ago.  He was never considered.

Alford covered up a rape incident for Pierre Pierce when he was at Iowa. Enough said, he is scum and makes college athletics look bad. He is in the same category as Paterno.

From the MVC message board:

Alford fired, Niko playing with fire
Postby MissouriValleyUnite ยป December 31st, 2018, 12:53 pm

Alford's Year 6 met early termination today after a 15 pt loss to Liberty (imagine that school operating in Hollywood).

Niko's inaugural year ranks 297th in the country as the Rams have helped plummet the MWC to 15th.

Both midwestern guys, Alford an Indiana native. Any chance we see a familiar face return to the Valley (Alford to Valpo  :buddies:)?
CRUSADERS!!!

Read some of the responses to that and in this thread:

NO with a capital N O He's NOT a fit and I would be angry if he was hired here. I would strongly consider not watching or supporting the team until he is gone. But why bring this up now? We see the best evidence yet that Lottich is turning the corner and getting through to his team and you want us to lie down with a mangy dog like Alford?

Don't worry, Valpo would never have him and I support that.

I've posted more today than I have in the last couple months.  I'm a little behind and finally catching up.  That explains the timing of it.

Funny how the rest of the league doesn't think our coach is very good.....telling?  Even to the point that they are suggesting coaching hires for us.

I don't know if Lottich has turned the corner.....last night come from behind win was a walk in the right direction.  I hope he turns the corner and we need to give him time.  4 years maybe 5 years in my opinion is enough time.  I would lean to 5 with Lottich because he is learning on the job and a good representative of the University.

The presser after the game and the 40 second snippet of the post game locker room showed a happy, motivated and motivational coach. During the game Matt was animated and intense.  At the conclusion of the game he was a madman.   ;D    He has definitely altered his approach and has gottem more comfortable projecting that persona.  As the coach goes, so goes the team, and I like that direction.  He'll be OK.  2020 is when the team is expected to round into really competitive form and it looks like the coach will as well.

Alford to Valpo?  That suggestion must have come from someone in a state that has legalized pot.

I believe that our former coach Gene Bartow's son, Murray(spell?) is the interim coach at UCLA.  Didn't the Dad also coach at UCLA?

I don't suppose there's any chance of a home and home...
