Don't know how they could have had a better first half.  Almost nothing to yell at the tv about.

Don't let up in the second half.

VUGrad1314

A FANTASTIC performance! Keep it up and let's get this win! Come on  Let's stop this run quickly.

VUGrad1314

We're being out hustled this half. That's not acceptable. Matt needs to fire them back up and keep them focused on what's gotten them to this point.

crusader05

and just like that we're back to a 19 point lead. Look what happens when they don't fold under pressure

VUGrad1314

Shooting very well Way to weather that storm

We need to close out better on 3 point attempts And here come the refs making calls up to aid a potential comeback Stay strong Valpo!

VUGrad1314

Great game! I'm happy with this. Any time you can get a double digit win on the road in the MVC  it's a good day! Go Valpo!

valpopal

Lavender ends up with 7 pts., 10 rebs., 5 assts., and 0 turnovers. If Sackey continues to start, you might be able to start engraving the MVC Sixth Man Award for Deion.

Nice performance. Every time Mo St made a run the team fought to get the lead back up to twenty+

Nice to see them knocking down 3's and rebounding.

VUGrad1314

+11 on the boards 12/24 on 3019 assists. Great! Free throw shooting is still poor and we only forced 6 turnovers but it's hard to argue with this result. Keep it up and go Valpo! That felt REALLY GOOD after what they did to us on our floor last year. Great job today! Now on to Bradley!

Great win!  Ball moved better than it has in a lot of other games...and then the shots dropped. Love the rebounding edge. Shooting and rebounding well AND gritty is better than gritty.

I don't think you can win in game with more total domination.  Shot 50% from the 3, out rebounded them 43-32, 19 assts to 13 TOs.  As for somebody complaining about Deion, all he does is get 10 boards, 5 assts and 0 TOs.  Bakari?  shoots 60% from the 3.  A masterful game plan and great execution, particularly on the road.

I hope not. They should come to US, since the game's scheduled at the ARC.  ::) ::) ::) lol.

I meant that as in bringing our mental focus to the upcoming game against Bradley on Tuesday.

My only complaint is his defense.  Love everything else about his game.  But he has the propensity to lose his man for easy layups, including a few times tonight.

Lavender shores that up and Bakari gets his offense back consistently.  Look out.

Check out the stats for us for 40 minutes from the center position.   We get 40 minutes like that from the 5 and we will battle in every game.

I like Lavender a lot.  His shooting form looks terrible, but I don't fear what will happen when he has the ball.  I could easily look it up, but when was the last time that we ended up with more assists than turnovers in a year?  I seem to remember that even our best teams struggled in this area.

I know. I'm just being a little silly. ::)

That was a fun game to watch.  The team shared the ball and found open shots.  And made open shots.  Really good job by the team and coach. 2-0 in the MVC!

Agreed, not to mention from an opponent that started all upper classmen.  Believe they started 3 seniors and 2 juniors.

Obediah Church is a heck of a player and was missed by MSU.

FieldGoodie05

We came into this season concerned with Rebounding and PG play, I think these two areas have been better than anticipated

Looks like the stats show we are outrebounding our opponent by around 1 rpg and our A/TO is around +40.

We are starting to play together and hope our team attitude continues to mature with more cohesive play.  When our team leaders, such as Bakari or Markus get in a mental funk it's nice to see guys pick up and carry the torch which was missing at times last year.

Here's to hoping we go a full season with limited lasting drama (academics and injury)...

P.S.  I truly hope that Freeman's minutes (game and practice) are monitored.  Freshman wall is a real thing.  Especially in a bruiser conference like the MVC.

PERSPECTIVE POST

VU over MO St 82-66
LUC over Drake 85-74
ISUB over Bradley 65-60
ISUr over EU 58-46

So far ......

VUGrad1314

Look at that. The two newest additions
to the MVC Loyola and Valpo both 2-0. Go Valpo!

Ran some comparative numbers from Last Year vs This Year.  Wanted to see if my (recently) rose colored glasses had substance!

Valpo
FG% = slight gain .449 to .468
3-PT% = same
FT% = same
Off Rebound = +1
Def Rebound = -0.5
Total Rebound = push
Assist / TO = gain 0.85 to 1.19
PPG = 3.3 more

Valpo Opponents
FG% = slightly better 0.421 to 0.438
3-PT% = same
FT% = worse 71% to 66%
Off Rebound = 0.5 more (need to box out)
Def Rebound = same
Total Rebound = more 0.6 (again)
Assist / TO = push (we aren't turning them over more)
PPG = they are scoring 0.5 more

Now if we compare This Year vs Peters' Junior Year team this is how they compare.

Valpo
FG% = better now 0.468 to 0.443
3-PT% = worse .342 to .359 (not much)
FT% = worse 0.696 to 0.723 (that's about 0.5 ppg lost on 20 attempts)
Off Rebound = worse 9.9 to 12.65 (Vashil was something else!)
Def Rebound = worse 25.2 to 28.8 (again)
Total Rebound = worse by 6.35 per game (we had length that year E Victor, Vashil and Peters)
Assist / TO = better this year 1.19 to 1.10
PPG = worse -1.5

Valpo Opponents
FG% = worse we give up 0.438 compared to 0.384
3-PT% = better, 0.315 to 0.329 (push really)
FT% = identical
Off Rebound = give up 0.8 more this year
Def Rebound = give up 0.8 more this year
Total Rebound = 1.6 more given up
Assist / TO = quite similar 0.93 now vs 0.83 then
PPG = BIG difference almost 6 ppg less back then
