I thought Fazekas looked gassed at the end of regulation and in the OT. Might've need a few more shorter breaks or maybe a few more timeouts just to catch his breath. Think we finished regulation with 2 or 3 of our timeouts still in hand.

You make your points much better when your postgame passions have been replaced with calmer, deeper thinking. This is true for all of us. Good posters take as much time for development as coaches and centers.

oklahomamick

What good are our timeouts?  Nothing good comes from using them....
CRUSADERS!!!

M

Ha, no doubt we don't usually see much success out of a timeout.

oklahomamick

Maybe I'm bitter because Valpo was the one who costs me in my moneyline parlay.

Had $25 to win $100, Bradley W (Yes I called it) Texas Tech W (easy) and Valpo.....the last one let me down.
CRUSADERS!!!

valpo64

What kind of different result can one expect when Freeman, Sackey and Lavender have a total of 12 turnovers.  I think we turned it over on all  of our first 4 or 5  possessions of the game.  Our youth in the back court definitely showed tonight.  Although he is improving, Sackey has to play more under control.  Bakari's questioning of every call against him is getting old.  He acts like a spoiled little kid...time to grow up.  Along with youth comes inconsistency and that was sure obvious last night.  Perhaps with Ryan back now we can mold our "first" unit back together and get some consistent play and close out the season on a positive note.

I have little faith in the valpo administration, board, president, etc. to do much or really oversee anything. As far as I know, they're the same ones who oversaw the law school which unfortunately is closing. Shockingly, no one resigned and no one was fired from the administration who oversaw and allowed the law school to close. The bad economy and lack of applicants to law schools is of course what gets blamed, easy excuse. As far as I know, it'll be the oldest law school in the nation to close. Hard to believe, and quite frankly scary, these people are still the same ones making important decisions at VU.

VUGrad1314

I just want to know why it seems like we always play like dog crap against Indiana State.

Look, it is too bad the Law School closed.  It is also a fact that at best, it was mediocre and probably something less than that.  It wasn't measuring up to Valpo's academic reputation. Heck, it was belittled in a major motion picture.  New programs being added by these same administrators are drawing great students.  Times change, things are tough in secondary education.  We are blest to have them.

Now stop posting garbage in a basketball thread.

VU72,

I will keep my comments to basketball on this forum and hope to not have the pleasure of seeing you in court.  I paid my tuition and love basketball, just like you.  Only a part of the reason the law school closed was because it was treated like the bastard stepchild of the university.  There are many other reasons.  There are also many hard-working, excellent lawyers who were produced by that school.  Yours truly, I should hope.

That said...

I saw only the last 2 minutes of OT, so my comments are limited to my review of the stat sheet: free throws, free throws, free throws.  Maybe you can coach that, but more likely it's on the players.

As far as a Smits grad transfer, who would be interested in such uneven production?  20+ points one game, 4 the next?

From my understanding the Law school was well respected in the Midwest pre-financial crisis when the Law School dean and admissions panicked and severely lowered the acceptance standards to meet expenses. They took the short-term view and it cost them in the end.

Agree that Lottich deserves next year with this group.  If the group stays together and he cant win, then that tells us everything we need to know.

I'll take it a step further. I want us to have an impossible 2019 OOC schedule to test his metal. Think- Oakland like, SWAC-like, because the at large chances for mid-majors is gone. G O N E----Vanished      No fluff! No easy path to a contract extension! Sink or swim! Learn as you go.

3014 was the reported attendance. Not too bad for a midweek game. You have to think if we had finished those previous games (and this one) attendance would be much higher. The conference move has been good for gate receipts but the team has to perform.

The team's performance seems like more of the driver of attendance than the league that Valpo's in.  Here are the average home attendance numbers and overall and league record, and the league that Valpo was in at the time.

2019 - MVC - 13-13 (6-7) - 2,874
2018 - MVC - 15-17 (6-12) - 2,722
2017 - HL - 24-9 (14-4) - 3,086
2016 - HL - 30-7 (16-2) - 3,572 (3 NIT home games boosted this number from their regular season avg of 3,397)
2015 - HL - 28-6 (13-3) - 3,066
2014 - HL - 18-16 (9-7) - 2,833
2013 - HL - 26-8 (13-3) - 3,173
2012 - HL - 22-12 (14-4) - 3,383
2011 - HL - 23-12 (12-6) - 3,362
2010 - HL - 15-17 (10-8) - 2,739
2009 - HL - 9-22 (5-13) - 2,973
2008 - HL - 22-14 (9-9) - 3,666
2007 - MidCon - 16-15 (9-5) - 3,520

VUGrad1314

You're doing full season attendance. It would be better to test conference season attendance. I can do those numbers after work. But they won't diminish your point at all: Year performance matters but so does real or perceived team quality. Notice that the team is competitive but not a top performer yet this game was right in line with most midweek draws and in fact better than a lot of them by about 10% or more at least.

Unfortunately the uneven scoring and production have not been only produced by Derrik.  As I pointed out earlier, Markus hasn't made a basket in the last two games. Javon went for 27 then 17 then 4!  But, at least he has an excuse, being only a freshman.  And yes, Valpo has produced MANY very good lawyers!!

If I recall correctly, HL tournament games that Valpo hosted and played in were not considered home games. Thus, they were not included in home total attendance - unlike the NIT games of 2015.

I believe it is meant to be a type of pun: "words which sound alike but have different meanings." Johnny Carson once said that the pun is the most intellectual form of humor...but also the least funny.

I want to thank Just Sayin for makin sure everybody read my post 6 or 7 times.  ;)

Doublin Down:

1.  We should have the deepest talent and most experience for the 19-20 Valley season.
2.  Even the best crafted OOC schedule will not help qualify us for an at-large.
3.  Matt needs tested as a coach.
4.  The team needs tested by the best.
5.  What then happens in St Louis will determine our NCAA or NIT or nothing direction.

If anybody wants to seriously debate this we should probably start our 2019-20 scheduling thread.

VU2014

This whole thread irritates me and it's not because of anyone's comments or posts on it. I'm still just disgusted with how we played. Tomorrow's game couldn't start soon enough. Tomorrow this team isn't just playing for conference standings. They're playing for their relevancy with the community, fans, and students for the rest of the season. They need to make people believe in them again.

I'll adjust those for Butler and in the interest of fairness I'll also provide this year's MVC numbers both with and without the Loyola game for fairer and more accurate comparison.
