I read the story - Nice, but I get tired of hearing Valpo being compared to Ivy League schools. Valpo is a decent school, but let's not overinflate ourselves.

Valpo's been doing this since the Henry Baker Brown years. "The Harvard of the Midwest."

According to this story Washington U St Louis is "the Harvard of the Midwest."

Valpo doesn't even get a mention but at the time of HBB Valpo was the second largest school next to Harvard in an era when less than 2% of the population went to college.

OK, I respect history from 120 years ago. Washington U academically is close to Ivy League. Valpo is a decent school - believe what you want but is not close to being Ivy League.

Not sure why you feel that way.  Much of the academic reputation of schools in the Ivy are based on faculty who write books but seldom teach.  Valpo has an undergrad engineering school ranked in the top 15 nationally.  Their Business and Nursing colleges are top flight. Graduates from Christ College can get into any graduate program they want."Decent" in not even close.

At my company, I interact with a lot of folks that graduated from an Ivy League school.  I am in no way in awe of their superior intellect, or demonstrable knowledge/experience, due to their Ivy League background.  Very smart folks, but the gap is not as large as you think...

As an engineer, some of the best engineers I have worked with went to MIT. Also, some if the worst engineers I have worked with went to MIT.

After graduating from VU undergrad, I went to law school at NYU, where roughly 1/3 of my classmates had gone to Ivies. I held my own there, but I always felt insecure about my own collegiate preparation. Not until I returned to NYU after years in practice as an entry-level instructor in its first-year legal skills program did I understand that my VU liberal arts training -- especially the extensive writing work done for courses -- prepared me well for the rigors of law school. It was a revelation to review the written assignments of 1L students and see that a good number of those from tonier undergraduate schools were not necessarily the best writers and analysts.

Don't get me wrong, some were absolutely brilliant and probably could've practiced law successfully with one year of law school under their belts. But those qualities were far from universal. Most had to learn from the ground up and work hard to get up to speed, like the rest of us.

Don't know if any of them can play, but Valpo's national draw continues to be impressive.  Current roster has players from 22 states, including Alaska and Maine! Freshman hail from 18 different states.

With the Ivies voting today on whether to move Football...and maybe all Fall sports...to Jan 2021, I wonder if the PFL and possibly the rest of the college world follows suit at some point if not immediately. That is, of course, if the Ivy League votes to move.

Disappointing but we added 11 other Freshmen OL. He probably counted bodies and realized it might be tough to get on the field.
