Is the Big Dance about selecting "the best teams" or is it about selecting "the teams that earned it most" in the regular season? That question is at the crux of the debate. Based on the last two NCAA Tournaments, the selection process relies more heavily on resume while seed placement is more dependent on quality.

There are currently nine teams that are ineligible for the 2022 tournament due to various reasons. Bellarmine, California Baptist, Dixie State, Merrimack, North Alabama, Oklahoma State, St. Thomas, Tarleton State, and UC San Diego. Also note that the Ivy League canceled their season. This means that there is one extra at-large bid available this year.

A few days ago, Loyola Chicago was a 7 seed. I saw one bracketologist put them as a 10 seed after their recent loss. Lunardi has them in the "kiss of death" bracket at a 9 seed. I'd rather be a 10 seed than an 8 or 9 seed.
