Can't tell the players without a program!   :rotfl:

It's a new page in the history of Valpo BB.

La Peep - good choice. +1 is Darius, correct?

I'm not sure at all. But that doesn't look like Darius? I'm probably wrong on my take.

Hmmmmmm.  Is that a CBBL patch on his right arm?  You may be correct.

Former/current pro players dot the walls of various places in the ARC, and I have to believe that they have outreach with alumni.  You shouldn't be Valpo's coach, if you don't know the past successful players, especially someone like Lubos Barton.  He had a more successful Czech basketball career than the guy he was always compared, Jiri Welsch.

The Rev doing what he does well, inspiring:

I believe there is more to the story than just a tweet.

Lubos gave the greatest senior night speech in Valpo history. Long, rambling, heartfelt, bizarrely comprehensive (I think he even thanked the cooks in the dorms).

Building good will is hard work. You have to put yourself out there, make speech after speech, be inspiring, rinse and repeat. Homer was a master. Bryce didn't like it. Matt didn't do it. Roger is a master. I can't wait to see how he connects with the students.

Agreed, but Ivan Vujic was also up there, since he invited each of us to his house for a party, which I took him up on.  Vu's house was always a fun party :)

We haven't heard the last from Lubos. Sit tight.

I was most definitely at that party.

Lubos Barton is on his way to become an assistant coach in the NCAA

From a PO list of Potential Valparaiso Men's Basketball Coaches - March 2023

Lubos Barton, Girona Basketball assistant coach - Barton starred at Valparaiso from 1998-2002 and then had a lengthy professional career for the next 14 years. Barton joined the coaching ranks in 2016 and has collegiate experience working with Baylor during the COVID-shortened 2019-20 season. Barton carries weight with European talent and he could revive what was a once-promising pipeline for Valparaiso.

I thought Lubos was to be announced mid June.

On a whim, I started to click on social media links involving Roger. OMG, the man is everywhere. In my time intensely following MBB, I've never seen such a presence. Bryce didn't need to whip up enthusiasm for a long-tiime solid program and Matt thought, unfortunately, that he was in the same boat. But Roger gets it. He hasn't coached a game yet, but he's already "recruiting" the community big time. His first season might be tough, but he has already built support that will pay off in the long run.

I just watched the 60 Minute interview with Dion Sanders, "Coach Prime".  I couldn't help but compare the situation he inherited to that which "The Rev" inherited. In Colorado's case, a 1-11 record and in The Rev's case, a formerly highly respected program having fans wondering why we belong in the Valley.  The situations couldn't be more similar.

Coach Prime told his players to transfer because if they didn't like the situation or thought they couldn't compete, they were part of the problem. The Rev found THREE players left when he landed.

I love the comparison and see zero reason why the community, alumni and administration can't back the program back to its former greatness and...BEYOND.  I chose to believe.  LET'S GO!!!

I can see the comparisons between Deion Sanders and Roger Powell, but I would argue that there are substantial differences:

-Deion Sanders is a huge celebrity and can leverage that, Roger Powell is not a celebrity.
-Roger Powell has extensive coaching experience, whereas Deion Sanders only had a few years at Southern.
-Deion Sanders benefits from being able to immediately get his son to transfer and be a top flight quarterback. Another son is the starting cornerback.

I am not diminshing Deion Sanders' success or the potential for Coach Powell. I just see Coach Powell's forthcoming turnaround being more akin to Lance Leipold's at Kansas.
