Butler is down 31-28 at the half.  Indiana is a very talented, scrappy team with good shooters, but Butler has pretty much matched them blow for blow.  Hopkins looks good shooting the ball (13 points), but he has also turned it over 4 times.  If Butler continues to shoot the ball well and cuts down on turnovers (10), they could make things interesting down the stretch.

It's not looking good with 3:43 to go and Butler down by 14.  Lots of turnovers (might be upwards of 20 by now).

I am not looking forward to an easy game Saturday.  Stevens will clean up the mistakes.  Even in the 2nd half, they played with a lot of intensity.  Valpo's in for a very tough game, and should probably be the underdog.

Final
Butler 59
Indiana 75

It seemed like Indiana just has too much fire power this year with Jordan Hulls, Victor Olidipo, Will Sheehey (21 points) and Cody Zeller.

bbtds, it also helps that these players believe in this system. The fan base is starting to show some interest, and they are returning to games again.

Funny how Indiana (read: Tom Crean) didn't show any interest in playing this game the last three years.

Coincidence? I think not.

Ducking seems to be part of this guy's daily regimen.

I ran into Tom Crean a year or so ago and suggested a home and home with Valpo.  He thought for a moment and then said: "Don't hold your breath on that one"!!  Then I suggested a 2 for 1 and he did say "that's a possibility"

Sagarin's latest rankings (thru 11/27) has Valpo ranked at #88 and Butler at #174. Could be a cake walk for good old Valpo.

I wouldn't count on it!

Pomeroy's got Valpo 151, Butler 105 (CSU 69, UMW 110, Detroit 118).

Detroit ranked higher than Valpo?  I think he better recalibrate his computer!

If you want to call us UWM, I can live with that. But please don't call us UMW. Sounds like a sports car. :)

By the way, I wouldn't hold your breath on Crean giving you anything more than a 4-for-1. ;)

In terms of a 2-for-1, we'd have to find a neutral court in Indiana to play the "home game" on, because I don't see so many tickets being sold if Valpo hosts IU at the United Center.

Yet wasn't it Tom Crean's Marquette that came to play Valpo at the ARC about 4 to 5 years ago? Maybe Crean was not part of that decision to play at Valpo.

The answer is yes and based on that close one, not sure he would want to come back:

They almost never do.

Milwaukee threw the fear of God into Wisconsin nearly 10 years ago and they've only come back once.

Ah yes, the game where James basically threw up a 3-pointer with 2 people on him from near half-court to take the lead with a few seconds left.  I believe that is the closest we have come to beating a top 25 team since the 1998 team?

What about the Coliseum in Ft Wayne? Or would the LCMS Lutherans in Ft Wayne stay away from Valpo games for theological reasons? (just kidding--reference was made to an earlier "General VU Discussion" thread about Valpo and Lutherans)

valporun

The Coliseum could be a good option. Just have to coordinate the schedule around the NBDL, IPFW, and if Fort Wayne still has minor league level hockey...

Can you play basketball in the Crown Plaza?

The Komets are still going strong in their 60th year.  "Fort Wayne's season attendance average improved to 7,493 to rank third in attendance in all of pro minor league hockey."  Players love playing here because we average more fans than some of the NHL teams.

I am sure that the Memorial Coliseum would love to host a game like this.  IU use to play an exhibition game here when Knight was coaching.  A lot of people have been trying to get something like that going again.  This could fill the bill but I think it is a pipe dream.
