His birthday is Feb 2, 1989!  That makes him a 22 year old high school senior!  Man, if I was 22 in high school I could have really hurt myself!   ;D

"Jakolis played for the Croatian National Team in the U18 European Championships in 2009"

Something doesn't compute here!

This isn't going to turn into one of those eligibility cases now is it?

The FIBA U18 website lists his birthday as April 13, 1991 which would have him turning 20 next month.

Offers from Marquette and Northwestern...good get for us.  This recruiting class will be very good if we can snag a post

vuweathernerd

hopefully he can bang around a little bit.

Another site had him listed at 215.  I agree - 185 won't be banging on arrival.  Hopefully, at his age he can add some muscle and become a force for VU!

Where have I heard this before?

He's a wing.  Let's not try to convert another softie into a post player.  If he can shoot and grab a couple rebounds while putting up some kind of defense, I will be happy.  He is not a post player.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that the last scholarship can finally be handed to a true post.  I am not holding my breath though.

So, just to keep us informed, who is/are the "softies" you have in mind.  The last two who have played the post are Urule and Cory and to a lesser extent this year, Kevin.  Let us know...

Kevin is not soft.  Urule was not overly strong, but I wouldn't necessarily consider him soft.  Cory is soft...he is a good finesse post player.  He's good, but not the kind of banger we need.

Cory most definitely is/was a softie.  Every time he went to the basket he was spinning away or fading away from contact.  Which is why he often got called for travels, missed close in shots, and didn't get fouls called.  I can't completely blame him, as we all know he was playing out of position, but true, non-softie big men don't avoid contact; they generate it and get lots of free throw attempts to show for it.  Kevin has a lot of potential in this area as he seems to like to generate some contact and go up strong, but who knows how many minutes we can count on him for with his bad back.

cmack

Kevin is definitely NOT softie. I am a big fan of how he plays.  Cory was soft.  It was just his game.  He was talented at what he did.  He was not a bad player, just not the type to back someone down and take them to the rack.  Need I even mention Vucic/McLoed in this conversation?

DMvalpo18

it's ok if jakoli isn't a post player. putting cory down there was always tough to have since he was much better at taking the bigger defenders he had on him to the rack than back to the basket situations. hopefully jakolis will be an aggressive player though who drives often. does anybody know if he shoots well from the outside?
