Tim Stoddard is one.  The only other one I can think of (and I might be wrong) is Kenny Lofton.

Right on both counts.  Both are from East Chicago!

Right on both counts.  Both are from East Chicago!
Stoddard in 73 (NC State), Lofton in ? (Arizona), right?

By the way, I'm familiar with Stoddard at EC, but not Lofton, when was he there?  I know he was an MLB rookie in 92 or 93, so I'm guessing he graduated from high school really close to that year.

Lofton backed up Steve Kerr on the 1988 Arizona team that lost to Oklahoma in the final 4. I believe he graduated from EC in 1985 (maybe 86).

Thanks.  The first thing I thought of was the 1997 Arizona team, but then I realized it couldn't be Lofton.  Was there a player from that team that graduated to MLB?

Interesting team (97 AZ) but not sure any baseball players on that one. Miles Simon did a couple of our games. Mike Bibby was a NBAer. Josh Pastner is coaching Memphis. You may be thinking of Jaime Sykes who played against Arizona in '96 NCAA. You may also be thinking of Terrell Lowery who played at Loyola Marymount and a few MLB teams, but he was late 1980s at LMU. The other major NCAA player who was a pretty good baseball player from the early 1990s was Scotty Burrell, who showed off his arm on a famous UConn play to I think it was Tate George in the Tourney.

Nope, wasn't thinking of any of those guys.  I knew Lofton, but not first-hand, which sometimes throws me.  That 97 NC game was the best one I've ever watched, so whenever one of these questions takes me in this direction, a part of my brain can't help thinking the answer came from that particular Arizona team.

If we are going to have trivia, can anyone name the athlete who was drafted in 4 different leagues?  My dad played against him in college in two of those sports...

Don't think this is the correct answer, but I know Ronald Curry was a first team All-American in football and basketball coming out of high school, as was Randy Moss.

My guess is Jim Brown - Football and LAX.  I think he was also All-American in college in both sports.

OK, if chef doesn't know then I'll guess the rest of you won't get it either.  It's Joe Mauer, who was also a first team All State basketball player.

Dave Winfield was correct on my question.  He was drafted in the ABA, NBA, NFL, and MLB, even though he didn't play football at Minnesota.  I think he was drafted in the 15-16th round in the NFL, back when they had a ton of picks.

In 2002 I was doing some traveling for my job in Peoria, IL and had some extra time so I decided to take in a minor league baseball game between the Peoria Chiefs and Quad Cities River Bandits. Quad Cities won the game. The game wasn't particularly interesting but I did keep the scorecard.

When I looked back at the scorecard a few years later I noticed that the game had two of the best catchers in MLB in that game in Peoria. Catching for the Chiefs was future all-star and Cardinal great, Yadier Molina. Catching for the River Bandits was future all-star and Twins great, Joe Mauer. Both were 19 years old. Molina was noted in the scorecard/program for being related to two major league catchers, his brothers, Bengie and Jose. Mauer was noted for being a rising star soon to be with the Twins and turning down an NCAA football scholarship from Florida State. I really wished I had paid more attention to the players in that game but you just never know how well obscure players will turn out if and when they get to the major leagues.  ;)
