Butler's NCAA money

Could you please explain what happens to Butler's NCAA money now that they are leaving the Horizon. I presume this will help Valpo in the short run.  Also, is $50,000 the actual exit fee? Seems very low.  Thanks!

I'm almost positive that Butler's share is now split evenly amongst the remaining teams and the league itself.

During the conference call, LeCrone stated that the NCAA money stays with the conference and wouldn't comment on what the exit fee is.

i'd be willing to speculate that the $50k exit fee is as low as it is due to the forfeiting of said ncaa monies

The NCAA distributes money in 3 separate pools.  The first 2 go directly to the schools.  These distributions are based on the number of NCAA sports a school sponsors and the number of athletics scholarships it awards in those sports.

The funds from the third pool are distributed to the conferences.  This distribution is determined by the number of games each conference's schools play in the NCAA tournament over a number of years.  These funds stay with the conferences regardless of membership changes.  Each conference determines its own internal distribution model for the funds.

The terms under which a school leaves the Horizon League are not something that I can discuss, sorry.
