NCAA Baseball Bracketology

Schreiber not happy with our placement in his Regional.  This from the NW Indiana Times:

Schreiber hopes the Steel Yard can be a Purdue-friendly atmosphere during the regional.

"The NCAA didn't by putting Valpo in there," Schreiber said. "We want this to be a well-attended tournament, but it's a shame our players don't have a home-field advantage by not playing on campus in front of our home community and our home crowd. We don't want to see us be out-attended by Valparaiso fans, because they're going to be close."

I'm thinking of having a pregame tailgate in the parking lot.  Any interest?  Anybody know of any food/alcohol/tailgate restrictions at the Steel Yard?  Weather looks iffy...temps in the high 50s Friday with a chance of showers.  Nice the rest of the weekend.  It would be great to outdraw Purdue and everybody else there. 

What was Valpo's best attended home game this season?  I'm sure with Purude NW and Purdue Cal, along with the mother ship, Purdue has many more students/fans/alumni in the area.  Valpo can compete in this bracket, but we need our best games - both offensively and pitching-wise.

Our biggest crowd was at the tourney in Chicago--about 600 or so total when we played.  Probably about half of those were Valpo fans.  Home games at the Emory G. get 100-200.  I'm sure we'll get a nice crowd for the NCAA.  Shockingly, Valpo sent an email to all currently enrolled students and their families today actually encouraging them to attend a tailgate!  They are having a community tailgate at 5:30 Friday night in Lot B at the Steel Yard.  They even reminded us to bring "beverages".  Is this part of the new Valpo mindset where they are encouraging students and alumni to have a little more fun at such events??  Word is they are relaxing the whole "dry campus" thing to increase enrollment from 4000 to 6000 undergrads.  Whatever the reason, I appreciate the invitation!

Well, our Fight Song does include an interlude from "Roll out the Barrel"!!     The alumni received a similar invite.  I've personally encouraged my friends and family in the area to attend.  Sure wish I could be there, and will be in spirit as I watch on BTN!!  Go Valpo!!

I just looked up the 2011 CWS bracket and there were no #4 seeds that won their regional last year.  Of the 16 regionals, 10 were won by #1 seeds, two by #2 seeds, and four by #3 seeds.  Anything can happen on the baseball diamond!

ORU won their regional one year not too long ago.  I don't remember if they were a 4 seed or not, but I'm guessing they were.

They were a 3 seed that year.  During my time at VU and a few years afterwards, it wasn't uncommon for ORU to be a 2 or 3 seed since they were ranked in the top 25 often.

According to the NCAA, ORU has made fifteen, yes 15, straight NCAA baseball tournaments.  Quite a feat for a small school from OK.  Miami(FL) has made 40 in a row, with Florida State at 35, Cal St. Fullerton at 21, and Rice at 18.  ORU is in some good company.  Has ORU ever made the Sweet Sixteen, so to speak?

If memory serves, the state of OK has produced a decent baseball player or two.

ORU made the CWS in 1978, I believe.  It definitely is a great feat to make 15 straight trips, but it has also been helped by being the only decently financed Southwestern team in a spread out conference of mainly midwest teams.  I say decently financed, because Centenary made due with very limited scholarships while D-1.
