I don't see how they could have left out Buffalo's Anchor Bar...

Ryan ranked No. 28 in Goodman's Preseason Top 50 Shooters:

While the list is arbitrary, I'd take Jordan Hulls over all of them, and in my mind it's not close. The last guy I saw who could shoot like that was Alford. What I love about Hulls is he can shoot off the dribble, off curls, off screens or catch and shoot. You have a lot of guys who can do some of those things, but very few can do all of them. Hulls biggest problem is his height and his ability to create his own shot. He got better at creating his own shot as the year went on. I can't wait to see what he does this year...

Of note...3 of the top 10 are originally from Indiana. Jordan Hulls, Scott Wood, and Kellen Dunham

Good to see Ryan getting the national publicity.  Doesn't someone here think to rank a kid #9 (Dunham), before he even shoots a three in competition, is either (a) premature or (b) a bit high?  Interesting, too, that the Bulldogs get two in the top ten, but are, from what I think I saw in another posting, picked 6th (?) in the A-10.  UPDATE:  Valpopal noted one more recent prediction having BU in a tie for #1 in the A-10.

I don't think ranking Dunham that high is all that far off. He lead the state of Indiana in scoring and free throw shooting as a senior. He was one of the best shooters in Indiana in awhile. I have heard he routinely beats Clarke in shooting contests in practice. Granted practice isn't a game, but it gives you some idea.

Hasn't Butler had a few "leading the State of Indiana in shooting" types before? Just curiuous.

CBS Sports just came out with their Top 100 college basketball players and...no Broekhoff  :(. However Ray McCallum Jr. was #49.

For my own comparison, Gary Harris (freshman Mich St) was #75. I would take Harris over Ryan, but that means Ryan would have cracked the top 100.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/storylist/20512719/2/2012-13-college-basketball-previews/cbssportscoms-top-100-players

The notion that an incoming freshman, other than perhaps 10 kids, will have a bigger impact than Rowdy is just silly.  Perhaps ten--maybe--should be included but none have actually played at this level.  On the other hand, Rowdy won honorable mention all american honors, which put him in what?  The top 100 LAST year?  So how many of those kids graduated?  Who ever wrote the article has no knowledge of less than major conference players and/or major conference recruits.

ATLANTA -- Keith Appling scored 19 points, including a brilliant drive with 13.5 seconds left, and No. 21 Michigan State rebounded from a season-opening loss with a 67-64 upset of No. 7 Kansas on Tuesday night.

The Jayhawks (1-1) led 59-54 with 5 minutes remaining, showing signs of taking control in a game that was tight all the way. But Michigan State (1-1) rebounded behind its brilliant guards.
Freshman Gary Harris scored 18 points, including back-to-back baskets that sparked an 8-0 run.
Down the stretch, it was all Appling.
He confused the Kansas defense playing off a screen, winding up with an open 3-pointer with 1:35 remaining that pushed Michigan State to a 65-61 lead. Ben McLemore converted a three-point play, but Travis Releford missed a potential tying 3 at the buzzer.

I want to make it clear, this is not a knock on Ryan in any way, but Gary Harris is the real deal. He is one of the best players as a true freshman on a top 25 team expected to challenge for a Big Ten title. He's got legitimate NBA aspirations.

I'd just like to state the Ryan took 12 shots to score his 20 points while it took another HLPOY candidate 23 shots to score 21 points. Ryan is te definition of efficiency on the basketball court.

So true...  Watched them both in the ESPN Marathon - I would way rather have Ryan....   (But have to say that Detroit looked good.)

Detroit looked like... uhm... Detroit, athletic, erratic and unable to run half court sets when they needed to be disciplined. In free wheeling fast full court games they excell but when it comes down to the last five minutes of a fairly tight game they often come up empty like today.

Me too...mostly because I think McCallum is an...(nicer word) jerk.

I would think that Bobby will win the newcomer of the week award a few times this season

Watching Ryan is like the beauty of Fall. Sadly, unlike years past, when all the leaves are gone they won't be back.  Better soak it in while we can.

Some good news to celebrate!

Ryan has been named Horizon League Player of the Week, and Bobby has been named one of the top Newcomers of the Week once again. Ryan has already been the conference Player of the Week two times, and he has to be the early leading contender for the conference Player of the Year once more despite the preseason polls.

"Shooting 55.6 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three-point range, Broekhoff holds an offensive rating of 124.3, per Ken Pomeroy. Among players used between 24 and 28 percent of possessions, Broekhoff's rating is the 12th-best in the nation. At 17.4 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game, Broekhoff is tied for second in scoring and is third in rebounding in the Horizon League."

And I repeat...

Not surprisingly, Ryan has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week again, his third time this year:

Broekhoff carried the Crusaders in both games, posting 21 points and 10 rebounds in Valpo's win at UIC. The senior's jumper in the lane with 2:23 to play put Valparaiso ahead for good, breaking a 61-61 tie. Finishing the game 7-of-13 from the floor, Broekhoff went 3-of-6 from three-point range.

In Saturday's win, Broekhoff knocked down a career-high seven three-pointers, the first coming four seconds into the game, giving Valparaiso a lead it would never relinquish. With a 0.615 efficiency-per-possession rating, Broekhoff dominated the contest with 26 points and 10 rebounds, giving him a Horizon League-leading five double-doubles on the year.

The reigning Horizon League Player of the Year, Broekhoff sits second in the Horizon League with a 17.0 points per game average, leading the League with 8.3 rebounds per game. Broekhoff is second in both free-throw percentage (90.3) and three-point percentage (47.0). Nationally, Broekhoff's 128.0 offensive rating is 30th, per Ken Pomeroy, while his 67.4 true-shooting percentage is 18th.
