Hopefully she can get the help that she needs. It says something about Softball HC pay, if you are purposely trying to avoid paying $67...
If I am Laurel Hosmer my first call is to Angie Bain (Doerffler), Head Softball Coach/Associate Director of Athletics Franklin College. A proven winner at VU and as a coach.
@valpotx If she couldn't afford her lifestyle, maybe look for a different job or change your lifestyle. How about we hope the players find the help they need after having her as a coach!
I also saw that there was something about controlled substances? IDK if that had anything to do with it as well

She was in possession of Zofran (Ondansetron) without a prescription. It's an odd substance to have as a street drug but it has been tried as a withdrawal from opiates medication in the past. This would indicate a bigger issue.
As one who's been around this type of situation, assuming there is one, I wish her the best.
Let’s get the whole story.. for everyone!
1. There were petitions to have her removed from staff during and after her first year.. by the players.
2. Husband has DUIs.
3. Came to practice under the influence of marijuana.
4. Shes a thief
5. She was charged with possession of marijuana AND Zofran, commonly used to help with opioid withdrawl.
She was and is in fact NOT a good coach, person, or roll model. She wasn’t liked from the beginning and Valpo Athletics completely ignored athlete concerns. period.

As far as the public is concerned only 3. and 5. on your list are confirmed to the public. While all may have occurred we cannot take anything other than 3. and 5. as undeniable fact unfortunately. Lots of good softball coaches out there. Hopefully the players can move past this incident and continue to perform

2,4 and 5 are all public knowledge
@rezynezy It’s difficult to move past! These ladies have had 3 coaches within the blink of an eye. Not to mention how they have been treated by this last one. How about we worry more about their mental health regarding so much change and uncertainty, rather than “hoping they move past it”
Tribune article mentions nothing about the DUI charges or that there were petitions to remove her from her position. As for mental health NCAA provides mental health resources in addition to there being resources on campus. I know this is a tough time for you guys. I've had shitty coaches too. VHS had issues with a softball coach too. You move past it. Deal with it on your own terms and check on your teammates. You guys are family. She clearly wasnt family to you.
To make it clear. I am in no way justifying her actions. She's a public figure and should know better. She deserved to be fired. I am just saying that we shouldn't be going on a witch hunt if the info isn't public. We can berate her for messing with illegal and controlled substances and shoplifting, but everything else I cannot find online or verify
Makes one wonder about Charles Small's decision making or a least his background search work. As for the team thing, apparently some like her. She did bring in 8 freshman and had 11 returners and 1 transfer in.
Her husband had the dui which is public knowledge. Those article can be found, however this article isn’t about him.
Hopefully they can bring a good coach in that will stick with the program.
