@jd24 Fine tuning and rookie mistakes have been ironed out. Turnovers have been decreasing game by game, the big issue is the hot and cold nature of the offense. Capitalizing on turnovers and rebounds has been a sore spot all season. They can, and have played competitive basketball for a majority of the games played this season. The major pain is slow starts, and falling face first at the finish line. These issues are largely due to inexperience. On our first outing against ISU, we got 40 bombed. On our second outing, we were consistently putting up a fight. Same can be said for a large majority of in-conference games.

@usc4valpo Look, I'm not saying we win the whole thing. That would be a pipe dream, but winning 1 game in the tournament is not out of the picture.

How many of you are planning to watch Valpo play on Friday?  I'll be in St Louis probably visiting the old family bakery in Carondelet Village. But I'll have to go to Federhofer's on Gravois in the County to get true St Louis Gooey Butter Cake. My dad's cousin's wife was born a Federhofer.

  • The winner of the UNI-SIU game will be 12-8.  The loser will be 11-9.   Belmont will finish 12-8 with a win Sunday and 11-9 with a loss on Sunday, and Belmont will be tied with either UNI or Southern Illinois, and what team that is depends on UNI-SIU game outcome.   Notably, Belmont split with UNI and split with Southern Illinois, so that two-way tie involving Belmont-TBD will be broken by the NCAA NET rankings of Monday morning (March 4).

If only one of those teams wind up 12-8, they are the 4-seed and the other two are tied for the "let's play Valpo" contest.

If two teams wind up at 12-8, THEY become tied in the "Lets Play Valpo" contest.

I continue to predict Belmont. I believe SIU defeats UNI in Carbondale and Belmont knocks off Evansville in Nashville but SIU's NET ranking will be higher than Belmont who lost many road games which rank higher in the NET rankings.

I would gladly take a win at ARCH Madness, but I won't hold my breath.

I don't think any of this means they are better than their record.

@jd24 Look at today's performance. They have the capabilities to beat any team in this conference. The issue is putting it all together, and experience enables you to put it together and increase your B-IQ

This isn’t 2020.  We’d be VERY, VERY  lucky to win our first game. And if we somehhow do, I can only hope we will hold it together to look respectable in the next game and not get blown out.

But on the other side, these kids are so young they don’t grasp what’s expected vs. what’s possible. So what the hell.

Im just glad they finally won a game, they beat ISU at home by 3 on senior day. Treat the Valley tournament as a learning experience gang.

Again...none of this equates to being better than their record. Their record is what it is because of the faults within the team no matter what they are. Will they get better? Hopefully but that is down the road (next season at this point) and that team will be a different team.

Every team has faults. Some are more prevalent than others. But a team that is unable to sustain competative play and cannot win is a bad team. This team I'd able to play competative basketvall and has sustained competative play against a majority of the MVC in conference play. The team is inexperienced, and will continue to gain that experience in the off-season, barring transfers.  What so you think are the qualifications, if any, for a team being better than their record?

One, is having a dominant player, able to consistently carry a team on his back.  Like a Bryce Drew, Alec Peters, Brandon Wood or Bruce Lindner.

@vu72 I mean, we have Coop. Need I say more? And if Coop isn't enough, we got Justus coming in, hopefully, and are currently looking at a hometown hero in Jack Smiley who is lights out taking contested mid range shots. Jack also has a massive vertical for being as short as he is. I think our main disagreement is as to what makes a team that is better than their record. I see your viewpoint. My final thoughts are, lets wait and see as to what occurs next year or better yet, in the MVC tournament if we can win a game.

@rezynezy you gotta quit drinking the brown and gold koolaid. They edged ISU by 3 at home and now you think they can beat anyone in the MVC?  If they beat Belmont first round that’s huge, but you haven’t followed this team enough this year.

@usc4valpo Well then, we will have to just wait and see how the team performs at the Arch.
