Defense heavy Valparaiso takes on full scholarship defense heavy Northern Iowa. With new clock rules this could be close heading into the third quarter.

If we go out and turn the ball over it could be a very long night with their roster of former Power 5 skill players

prediction: 35-3 UNI

Fewer clock stoppages after first down, running clock on out of bounds plays before two minutes. Fewer possessions. Will lead to some interesting scores.

watch for big spreads this weekend before Vegas catches up

Fox and company need a winning season! 8-4 is doable. Very favorable schedule outside of the first two and last two. How bout recapturing the Hoosier Helmet in November for some pay back. 2 L's in a row.

What are we getting paid for the NIU game and Youngstown. I assume these are buy games.

41-13 NIU. I hope I am wrong

Clock does not stop after a first down except in the last two mins. There is a 2 minute "timeout" which is the college version of the NFL's two minute warning.

The game needed to be sped up, and although it feels more NFL like, I’m in favor of the new rules.

UNI 45, Valpo 10. , and yes, Valpo needs a winning season desperately.

Until the offense shows it's better than what it has been in the recent past...which hasn't been good....I'll go with a 34-3 type of score and it wouldn't surprise me if Valpo gets shut out against this type of opponent.

I guess Mikey Appel is still in recovery mode based on the 2-deep.

As an aside about another MVFC team, didja see the North Dakota State/Colorado squeaker score? NDSU threw a long pass that was caught on the CU 4 as time ran out that would have won the game. Apparently they should have a had a targeting and taunting call against CU on the previous play that was not called. It would have stopped the clock and moved the ball 15 yards closer. I’m sure Coach Prime had something to say about that.

@vulb62 Honestly, if they can keep up with teams such as Colorado, I forsee them making the jump up to FBS in the near future. I know the Valley and other conferences like the valley are waiting to see how the settlement shapes up before adding members, but if NDSU or SDSU decide the MVFC isn't putting up numbers they want, the conference may see fit to expedite the process of adding some "full members". I did see that UT Arlington is looking to restart their football program. I see the PFL in their future if they are added to the MVC for basketball.

I do not see any way Valpo keeps up with Northern Iowa. 7-0 after the first quarter, but UNI ultimately wins 45-9.

In regards to NDSU and SDSU. I saw the end of the NDSU - Colorado game last night. They should have investigated the targeting call on the second to last play. But there was more to how this game ended than that (and the reception of the hail mary at the 4 yard line). Colorado has some great talent that will have long careers in the NFL, but their coaching is awful. Several poor strategic decisions allowed NDSU to actually get the ball back. They strike me as a team trying to play "hype" football instead of winning football. That said, NDSU is very good - easily better than a third of BCS SDSU, who will likely give Oklahoma State a very tough game, is even better - probably better than at least half of BCS.

@vulb62 - totally agree regarding NDSU and Colorado. Both NDSU and SDSu could Div 1A (FBS? Who knows these days?), but the money jump is large and I believe their stadiums require a larger capacity. NDSU has been outstanding regarding coaching and prep - obviously indicative of the all coaches that have been promoted to higher positions.

Just a comment on the last play...offensive players should be instructed to bat the ball in the air if they are not standing in the endzone. Catching the ball in the field of play on the last play is useless. Knock the ball up in the hope that a teammate grabs it and steps into the endzone. Defensive players should always knock the ball down. My first reaction to the referenced play was "why did he catch it?"

NDSU has beaten FBS teams with some regularity in the past so I don't know why playing Colorado tight would change anything. I'm not sure Colorado is all that good in the first place. It was no surprise at all that the game was competitive.

@jd24 agreed completely. NDSD has consistent been very well coached, unlike Colorado which has some fundamental issues.
