9-0 hole to Roosevelt late in first, offense is non existent. With a larger OL and two transfer down RBs, a multiple QB. We start with two plays in wildcat and try a gimicky offense.

we still cannot stop the run consistently between the tackles. Our LBs just got burnt twice in coverage.

Good win and 2-2 heading into conference play. Kids battled through adversity and won a game which in many past years would have been a lost.

That being said.

This should have been an easier route. Defense started slow and offense was non existent until the second quarter.

our WR play has been borderline non existent as our QBs have looked for the RBs in the passing game. We got the hall two times in the final 10 minutes to ice it and hit two three and outs.

and with that being said.

We played about our C game tonight and beat a team from the GLIAC. Talent is up across the board and if we start fast/play well in conference, the road to 6-8 wins is there. If we played like today looking like another 3-4 win season

Although Tyler is the much better athlete, his ability to throw the ball is seriously questionable (88 yards passing yesterday). Yes, he has made some good throws but he tends to pull it down and run and this may in part due to the fact that he is only 5'10" and may have problems seeing over the giants in front of him.

Appel is 6'4" and a MUCH better passer.  If we can finally get him healthy he may be the guy to get the offense moving.

Agreed on Tyler.  Great athlete that can make things happen, but it seems like he struggles with his touch passes quite a bit.  I've seen several passes launched 5-10 yards too long from where the WR is located, mainly when working the sidelines

Stick with Tyler, he’s the future and you can teach him.

Size doesnt always matter. If anyone attended the game at the high school #14 was a perfect example. All that matters is if a kid is coachable and willing to improve their game. If they are playing D1 football, they have already proven their skill to an extent

Bushka was Conference player of year at 5’9 for Butler. I don’t think the WR talent is there rn for Valpo.

Givens has a real shot in this league to be special but is a FR. Jimenez and Gundy have shown flashes they are really undersized.

Appel showed great flashes in a low usage position in 2022. He really struggled against Drake the last game of the season when they shut down the run. He was not great in 2023.

At this point Caron is 2-0 as a starter and has led an offense that’s put up 20+ ppg in regulation as that starter. His mobility has also protected our OL from some sack numbers.

there isn’t a Norberg or a Davis on this team. We aren’t taking the lid off no matter who is at QB. Leave Tyler in , let him develop, limit turnovers , and shorten the game this season.

Whether scheme or ability, it doesn't appear the QB has anywhere to go with the ball too often. There's nothing easy in Valpo's passing game right now. I don't see any reason to change until the offense is completely shut down.

Why is it when a team is backed into their own endzone, I can think "watch for a deep pass" and coaches/players do not. It is seen too often in my view. Not necessarily 97 yards worth but deep enough to make me wonder what they are thinking. This is not limited to Valpo.

Ok, I get it. I just get peeved when players boast being on a D1 program when you have to remain competitive against D2 and NAIA teams.

Which all but confirms that you don't get it.

I know why Valpo has D1 in name football, and that is to bring in male students and revenue. That being said, it’s about time Valpo starts showing signs of serious success. 3 to 5 win seasons doesn’t cut it.
