if we only beat these guys by 16 we are in for a long year. I’m going 92-67.
I seem to have done my math wrong. I wanted a 20 point differential.
Newcomers proving they belong. Really happy to see that.
Play Scroggins more! 25 min a game. I'd say the spread was covered tonight. Lets hope shooting continues against Cleveland State.
Some project player comparisons have already been made between Scroggins and Vashil Fernandez. Some of that raw talent potential certainly looks to be true but us gauging it in any accurate manor is likely a good distance off. Vashil averaged 7.3 minutes per game in 27 freshman appearances during the 2012-13 season and as yet I am unwilling to say that Scroggins will top that. BUT! I'm thinking my eyes will be focused on him every time he takes the floor.
Good to see the ball go in the hoop.
Darius has now played in 3 games and not scored. In fact, I'm not sure he's even taken a shot. I know he's got an injury....of which if it's that bad he should have sat for this game....but I'm hoping he's just waiting until we get into the season to take a look at the basket. That's kind of what he did last year.
well, no way Scroggins will ever match Vashil. He could be a very good player in three years and improved from now, but physically Vashil was a freak. You could see the wingspan and body type was there. Scroggins much different body type
One thing of note is the ARC showed signs of life. Although I had to watch the replay. The student section isnt a ghost town. The students are also starting to actively engage in the court performance as well. Although the attendance was just north of 1500, I think this can be attributed to a sectional championship occurring on the north side of town with the same start time of 7pm. If the students continue to buy stock in this team, I'd consider it a win.
Unfortunately, I could not follow the game, but having 9 posts discussing the home opener (only four of which are actually about the game itself), though, does not reflect well on this forum. Those who did post, thanks 👍🏻
@vulb62 I assume the latter half of my postgame statement applies here as well. Saw a lot of people at Viking Field with the VU game pulled up on ESPN+. I would assume most of the forum posters who still live in the area were in attendance.
I hope this game provides the confidence boost we need. The next four games should be winnable, especially at home. We need to find our defensive identity - one that leads our tempo and offense.
There are a number of upgrades we have mentioned on this forum that we would like to see occur, but for economics and other various reasons are not possible. However, one change that could take place immediately without any cost would be a more professional appearance in the post-game press conference coverage. I know Brandon reads this forum, so this note might be specifically for him.
Please position the table in the center of the backdrop and realign the camera so that the backdrop fills the frame. Perhaps use a longer table and position the players better as well. Eliminate any distractions, especially the ugly wall and set of electrical outlets that make the scene look like a basement hostage situation. In some shots, the awful metal mesh in the front of the table is also seen. Cut it from the camera frame or cover the table front with VU logo material. Also, lower the camera angle to eye-level with the coach and players. Finally, add a microphone or two so the players can be heard more easily. (At least, request that they move the microphone closer when speaking.)
Moreover, although Paul does an excellent job asking questions, a second voice is needed to create the slightest feel of a news conference rather than a glorified interview. If the local media aren't covering the team, then have a student reporter from the Torch or a sports communication class participate to gain experience.

While we're at it can we give the interviewers a mic with which to speak? Cranking my audio only to go deaf once Rev and the guys speak is a vicious cycle. Im also not sure if they changed the set up in the hospitality room over the offseason, but looking back, this was not an issue and the camera angle and the set were against the wall.
Valid feedback re: press conference. I would agree. Our video crew has been experimenting with live streaming the press conference, which would ultimately be an upgrade to have it available for live viewing, but there were some hiccups as this changed the setup. I'll work with our crew to chip away at improving this.
