@valpo15 Brother...Shaw went 0-3 on 3 pointers against Cleveland St. and 1-4 on 3 pointers against Liberty. For someone who's bread and butter is supposed to be 3s. That's not a good look. Bench guys have been putting up better stats than the starters. Just look at Wright and Schmidt's stats and tell me otherwise. Coop is just better as a Foreword than he is as a center. The emphasis on Coop becoming a center has had a significant impact on his game (8 missed 3s). Scroggins is someone who as proven (albeit against an NAIA school) to be able to dominate in the paint, and Louth has great hands on the boards. Again, the stats are public material.

I'm certainly not one of the wet blanket posters already calling for Powell's head, but when something isn't working, you need to find something different. Powell is certainly a good coach and learned from some of the best in the NCAA about how to recruit and establish a culture, but nobody is perfect.

Its hilarious seeing what some of you post.

Dudes on here second guessing coaches that have played in title games and coached under legends.

But-you guys know more-im sure you played intramural basketball or were part of a VU football program so that makes you experts-Honestly-stay in your lane

What an idiotic post.

By this measure anyone who's played competitive sports above what any of us have played should be absent criticism.

Powell...to this point....hasn't shown much that indicates he's any better than the last guy.

Well you've taken criticizing to a new level. Not only criticizing the programs but criticizing the criticizers on a forum...you know...typically where people go to criticize and analyze, etc. I guess we should all just not say anything unless it is passed by you first.

There is some humor here but I don't think it lies where you think it lies.

I think we should all take 5... relax... and wait until next Friday when the guys have had a week to work out their rust and come together as a unit. All in all there are going to be hiccups and undesirables in year 2 of a full scale program rebuild. As of right now we can moan and groan, but ultimately, the coaches are going to do what they think is best for the team, and they players are(hopefully) going to improve as the season goes on. Each one of these guys chose to be on this team for a reason.

Just one question on all of this. This team has been together for 5 months of workouts, internal scrimmages an$ team building exercises since June 1.

I don’t understand why a consistent rotation based on now known talent and skills needs 4-5+ OOC games to ‘discover’ a competitive rotation and nail down their game on both ends of the court. I always thought that the OOC schedule was to take your known quantities, hone your primary players within your system, and fine tune to improve as a unit.  But the lineups and substitution patterns appear to still be experimental  - like “we don’t know these guys so we have see who works well together.”  What?  It’s been 5 months. I mean like take Scroggins. Heavy presence one game, gone another. Coop still out of position at the post while two bigs who were apparently signed to fill that role pretty much ride the pine.

Its mostly "how things work in a game setting". Obviously these guys have been fine tuning and building chemistry in practice, but that's just it. Practice. Practice settings vs in game settings are drastically different environments. Which I think we all know so I wont dive into that further. As for the "lack of chemistry" or "lack of scheme" claims. From my viewpoint. They are unfounded. This team isn't a selfish team or a team with no scheme. The amount of passes before shot is a high number, and there is an increase in open look generation, but you could have the best offensive scheme in the world, able to generate infinite open looks, but if you can't score, that scheme means nothing. There is a scheme, and it is "working", but the team simply cannot score.

I don’t buy it. Still experimenting.

I mean...with roster turnover being what it is for mid major programs. Experimentation is just going to be what it is. I guess by your definition. You really cannot get a good feel for how things are going to go without being in that game setting. Which I didn't go into purposely as its just spewing stuff people already know. Internal scrimmages are just that, internal. You could scrimmage, and scrimmage, and scrimmage, but it ultimately would never completely prepare you for a game setting. That game setting before real games just isn't available to the college format. Or more commonly know as, the preseason. In a round about sort of way, that's just what the OOC schedule is for college sports, the preseason.

My next point more extends to the populous, but the notion that this roster was going to be "plug and play" was silly. Especially with the turnover and new faces. No roster (either in pro leagues or college leagues) for any sport, is plug and play. To assume so is silly.

The reality is coaches no longer determine wins or losses. You either have NIL money or you don’t.   The mass majority of mid-majors do not and it’s just a matter of time before there are 2 separate sub divisions.  This current model is not sustainable for college basketball.

That's what happens when decisions being made are made by CFB for CFB. And when Conference Commissioners and Athletic Departments are out of touch for their Olympic Sports and only care about CFB. Look no further than the out of touch comments from the SEC commissioner regarding college basketball and advocating for the removal of the automatic bid for mid major and low major conference tournament champions. I bet all these SEC purists and suits are kicking themselves right now seeing as the SEC has been curb stomped by the NIL craze and schools who have money, but no interest in football suddenly are using that money to fund their football and seeing major returns in terms of talent on the field. There is a reason Cignetti was able to have this drastic of a turnaround. He learned from the best in "Pay-for-Play" albeit in those days, "Pay-for-Play" was done under the table.

If restrictions do not come, then College Sports dies, plain and simple. With basketball still being a major money maker for a lot of schools. I dont think CBB will go down without a fight.

I would still be interested to learn if Scroggins was a healthy scratch, or was battling something.  Is he ready to dominate D-1 opposition?  No, but I don't see how a few minutes could have hurt, given that Louth was given some run, and did free up Coop a bit.  Is Scroggins just a last man off the bench at this point, and benefited from an undersized Concordia (Ann Arbor) to make him look better than he currently can play against D-1 teams?
