Darius Got away with a travel big time.  It was so obvious and Bradley should have been given the ball for a chance to win.  We inbounded the ball and he literally took two steps then dribbled.   Huge break we got on a mental mistake.

@vusolar we actually might be able to with the recent ruling NCAA has given all non NCAA affiliated athletes one extra year if they played in non-ncaa leagues. Technically NAIA is a non-ncaa league

What did a messenger post on the Bradley message boards..........

Well not our best, but we won.

Powell ran some nice sets and his team played hard. I thought he coached well. Give him a couple years and this team could be pretty decent.

I almost never complain about refs, but what a weird and inconsistently refereed game.

I understand why they might feel aggrieved with the late blocked shot that was then called a foul, but the NCAA does still have the rule that you can foul upon landing, as well.  He landed all over Jefferson after his clean block up high, as he did not jump straight up, but rather at an angle towards Jeff.  Even ChatGPT says:

Yes, it is likely to be called a foul in NCAA college basketball. Even if you cleanly block the shot, landing on the shooter can be considered illegal contact. The key points to consider are:

  1. Verticality Rule: Defenders are entitled to jump vertically to contest or block a shot. However, they must maintain their verticality and not extend their arms or body into the shooter's space.

  2. After the Block: If the defender lands on the shooter after blocking the shot, it can disrupt the shooter's ability to safely land and maintain balance. This constitutes a foul because players have the right to a safe landing space.

The referee will typically assess whether the contact affects the shooter's ability to continue the play safely or if it was incidental and unavoidable. In most cases, landing on the shooter after a block would result in a defensive foul.

Now, on the other end, Deen was cleanly blocked up high, but fell of his own accord out of bounds, which Bradley fans deemed as due to contact by Valpo.  Based on the replays that were shown, it looked like it was just his momentum that took him out of bounds after shooting.

The team showed great fight, but the coaching staff needs to tell Jeff to stop looking for his shot so much. Simple as that. If it comes down to needing to force offense, we'd all prefer to see Cooper, Schmidt, or even All Wright doing that.

An argument can be made that he lost them this game.

Over the last four, he's now gone 4-19, 4-8, 4-15, and 4-12 from the field.

Agreed. And All forgiven if he goes 2 for 2 on those late free throws...

Does Shaw do anything productive? He hits free throws when he gets them, I guess.

Apparently he was born into the right family.

Glad Powell yanked him with about 10mins to go in regulation after his spectacular drive to nowhere and he ended up with a 5 second count.

I was going to post a couple of days ago that he's taking too many shots and then he outdid himself. It's tough to carry a guy missing 15 shots by himself.

The team played tough but I am far from a moral victory guy nor do I think it does much in the "at least they played well against a good team". That only comes into play if the team wins games they either should or have a shot.....which I think the MVC presents a number of teams in this category. Valpo has to show they can do it which they have not.

Bummed that I wasn’t at this one or able to really cover it. Out of the country until Jan. 1. ESPN+ doesn’t work here. Luckily was able to listen to bits and pieces of the game. TuneIn buffered a ton.

If we compete well in the next 3 games while winning 2 my optimism will balloon outwards at an astonishing rate. Roger Powell seems to have some coaching instincts that are hard for me to anticipate. Thinking Guessing that shouldn't surprise any of us!

Really you have to win the MO state game. Mo State is just as bad as Evansville at this point. Win that one, and take one over UNI at home. That seems to be a realistic option IMOP.
