What is a good size roster for spring football practice?
I’m sure TVB will have an update of who transferred in for spring semester and the former players in the portal.
Valpofb16 is the expert on that.
A good number for spring is probably in the 60-70 range. 3 deep at each position (66) plus minus a few specialists.
i have us in the mid 60s currently. A large portion of our top end talent that we at least saw is gone. That number probably fluctuates with a few who quit im unaware of. I also do not have any fifth years returning as of this second (waiting until announcement), Chris Gundy is the first guy to return to Valpo from the portal.
With Fox going locally to Western Illinois , I do wonder if that number shrinks. They have already offered 2 year starting OL Nikola Paic today.
We will see. This could be a slow rebuild. The 44 two deep that takes field week one will look much much different

Greenhow spent two years in the Gophers program and was rostered for one of those years.
I’m pleasantly surprised so far at the number and backgrounds of the new commits considering the coaching change. And this inspite of Coach Waddle suggesting that he wasn’t much of a portal guy. It’s evident that the remaining and new staff are putting in the recruiting hours.
MY WISH LIST TO START (based on my very limited knowledge of who bailed to the portal)
Punter (1)
OL (a whole bunch of really big and agile guys with a couple of years of eligibility)
DL (a whole bunch of big, fast and agile guys with…. blah, blah, blah)
RB (2 - one who is a Robert or Aaron 2.0 would be nice)
QB (1 or 2 for depth behind Caron — he is staying, right? 😱
New Commit: Landon Tonsager 6’0 199 WR (Wisconsin Eau Claire / 2 years Eligibility) Eagan HS, Minnesota, 20GP, 798 Rec Yds. 1 TD

Do I get any credit at all for thinking that we can get the twin without posting it? We can't have VULB62 get ALL the credit around here can we? 🙂
Must suck to be Southwest Minnesota State in not only losing to Valpo by 1 last season, but also losing out to Valpo on the twins they had offered.

Posted this right after Waddle was hired….
“I took a step back after reading the recommendation posts (paying close attention to the sources) and re-reviewing MC stats for Waddle in the context of the upcoming season and, more immediately, the necessary recruiting and offseason efforts within the PFL context.
1) - 6)……..
7) Oh, and BTW, he also brings long-time access to a rich Ohio HS FB [edit: and D-III] pipeline.
That’s not a bad way to start things off.”
Looks like that pipeline is beginning to open up. 😀
New Commit: Jay Melchiori 5’11 180 WR (Marietta -D3 / 1 years Eligibility) 21 GP, 1350 Yards, 9TDs
Last year second on team with 46 catches and 726 yds. 15.8 avg.
Twice as many/much as anyone on Valpo's roster last season.
Size suggests slot.
I hope that Caron stays at Valpo for his entire education/athletic career, as he has a lot of potential to do some things in the PFL. His size likely prevents looks from FCS scholarship and FBS programs at QB, so unless he is open to switching positions, I do think he will stick around. That is how David Macchi ended up at Valpo, in a very similar size but bigger arm, primarily due to being an undersized QB.
