Seems like I’m the only one on the forum right now. So someone’s gotta start this string - guess it’s me. The big question on everyone’s lips: Can the Beacons continue their jinx over ISUr?
I do not have much faith ... but I'm still going to watch.
I am an eternal Valpo masochist.
Only down by 8 after the first 5 minutes. Honestly a lot better than I expected. Figured we would be down by at least 15.
the Illinois State announcers clearly weren't expecting carson schwieger to play- they've called him both cooper and tyler schmidt in the last minute
Carson has come to play tonight!
Great to see some duel schwieger minutes.. been wanting to see a bit more Carson in general.
I knew Walker would be a BIG problem for us today!
when he's not on the floor the game is completely different
If you want a definition of "no blood no foul" here is the game. Walker throws elbows on every scoring attempt. 0 whistles all game
We just seem overwhelmed by the MVC talent level. We get bullied all game. This season is ending up being just as frustrating as last season. I waived off last season as a fluke, now I do not see evidence of us building to something better.
This losing streak has taken the wind out of me as a fan. Do not know what the locker room feels like, and if we have any hope of retaining our players.
9 quick points
1) No post defense
2) Refer to number 1
3) Carson earned himself more playing time
4) All Wright, a lot to like for a freshman, still shoots to many bad shots
5) Where was this offense the last few games?
6) Shaw very limited athletically, but shows he can likely be a nice piece moving forward
7) Wright taking away minutes from Justice, Monegro and Schmidt!
8) Growing pains for next year, if we keep the nucleus and add some post presence?
9) I understand the frustrations and lack of resources compared to the other programs, but we we were 9-2 against the MVC from 2012- 2016 if you count Belmont and Murray wins, with the same resource gaps. Did we have MVC talent then?
Based only on the GameStats, who deserves the Grit Chain (which, BTW, has kinda gone low profile of late)? My vote: Carson. And why wasn’t he given more minutes in the second half? He’s a bit taller than Kaspar and buried some threes. And 8 RBs in one half deserves some more playing time dontcha think?
To add to that. That kinda determination shows a lot of guts. Isn’t that the kinda guy we want on the floor?
The slide continues.
Great to see Carson play meaningful minutes. Why wasn’t he playing earlier in the year?
Is Ellis going to even finish the season with the team? I have to think that he’s not coming back next year.
Shaw played a nice game as well. If we can get 8-10 points from him off the bench, that’s a valuable contributor.
All Wright is taking too many shots. He’s playing the role that Stafford played last year. He’s talented but he shouldn’t be our number 1 option on offense.
Can't complain too much. We sold out inside to give up the outside shots and ISUr made most of them. That is what you are supposed to do at the D-1 level. I still don't like how easy it is to pump fake Valpo to get an easy shot or pass, but we at least moved the ball around a bit more on offense. Walker was a beast down low, but was also given way too much leniency by the refs, as he just bullied down low. He outright smacked Sepp with an elbow late in the game as he was getting position, and they ended up calling the foul on Sepp. I said it last game that every single successful MVC team since we joined, has a big that can bang down low, to help complement the others. If Louth and/or Scroggins can't get minutes in a game where we really needed the low post defense, hopefully we have some bangers in the recruiting pipeline. Sepp is more of a PF/SF that can guard all 5 positions, but C is not his best position.
