Can we put someone else out there to miss 13 of 16 shots? I know some are enamored by Wright but I don't think he deserves the enamoration. The reigns need to be pulled on him. Play Darius and fit in Wright in spots. Let Monegro play in the backcourt and bring back Ellis from whatever coffin Powell has put him in. One of the great mysteries this season. What happened to him?
I stopped watching in the first half because of how we were playing. Turns out to have been the correct decision.
For me, this 9 game losing streak has called into question whether Roger Powell is going to be able to lead this team back to success.
This is the second season in a row where the team has all but given up on the season. You see it in their body language. You see it in their play. It would be one thing if they were playing hard, but it’s the opposite. It would be ok if we saw our players improving, but it’s the opposite. Everything points to this team regressing.
It’s a new group of players this year, but the coaching staff is the same. Something needs to change.
I love Valpo basketball but I’m not going to spend time watching a team that has decided they’re not gonna show up.
A month ago our guard play was our greatest strength. Today Monegro was great but McNair, Wright, DeAveiro, and Schmidt combined to miss all 13 of their 3 pointers while connecting on only 6 of 18 from short distance. I still have the greatest respect for Tyler Schmidt and admire his inside footwork which finds him makable close looks but he now isn't hitting those shots or getting fouled in their attempts or getting many tips or rebounds in this process. I think I'd prefer to see an underclassman miss his runners and back downs against bigger players than watch a 5th year grad work so very hard only to be thwarted in most cases.
Sorry that my frustration is showing so strongly and I'm certain that our players are feeling it 1000 times greater. What now?
Wow. When we were 3-2 it appeared that 10 maybe 11 wins were possible. Now, 5 wins and we’ll be lucky.
Unsure what to think of this stretch.
I may not recall this correctly, but throughout last season, to this point and to the end, didn’t last year’s team play their guts out every game? Why does it seem that, at this point with several games left, that posters are saying we’ve lost our fight? I always check the Assists and RBs, and assists are way down. RBs, meh.

The ball has to go in the basket to create an assist.
I was at the ARC. 6th or 7th game this year for me. Very sad attendance yesterday. Earlier in year there was some energy in the building. Gone now. Just let Justus play some extended minutes... make some mistakes. We all appreciate Wright but he can ice the shooting elbow a little. Schmidt has hit a wall... maybe he can sit a little and give Shaw and Ellis ? (what happened?) some time. Feels weird watching the regression. Cooper had 7 rebounds in the first 10 minutes if Sepp would quit throwing it into the student section woulda had some easy early looks. Cooper was being held on a couple of those rolls to the basket. Valley refs dont seem to respect cooper- has to get hit twice to get a call but on dee gets phantom or ticky tacs against him twice a game. I dont know what to think. Its sad early in year it looked like 8 wins was a lock and .500 in valley was possible. Where do you go rest of year? Id guess RP feels the pressure to get these wins but at some point its developement for Mcnair Carson and yes even Scroggins.
What is the cause of this 9 game losing streak after such a decent promising start?
This is getting really bad. The team looks just flat or maybe really beat up. An Embarrassing performance. And how many guys are going to stay when two guys, Ellis and Shaw, who used to be starters, played a combined two minutes? Troubling to be sure.
I hope from the board and Valpo community that this performance is unacceptable and not something we should accept. That is my concern that we’ll accept the same old commitment to sub mediocrity.
Another sad aspect was the poor attendance at a game during All-Sports Reunion weekend in which dozens of current athletes received their letter jackets at a ceremony and members of the new class in the Athletics Hall of Fame, including the whole 1975 Track and Field team, were introduced and honored. The official attendance was 1401, only slightly higher than the ongoing home average for this season, which stands at a paltry 1380 (almost 100 lower than last year's 1478). It is becoming difficult to remember those years when the average home game attendance for a season was over 3000, hitting a peak in 2015-2016 at 3573.

Are you suggesting Powell be fired in year two?? Come on! That would cost a fortune and be unfair as well. This is a tough rebuild. At least another couple of years.
There are no rebuilds in this era of college basketball. There is no more excuses for this coach, these players, or this program. UIC, Belmont, Murray, have all come into this league since us and can at least be competitive on a nightly basis.
I have not given up on RP2 yet, but i'll admit, I'm close. If a coach with his resume can't bring this program back from the Lottich/Labarbera brink, it can't be done.
