So I did a little digging to see how All's stats match up against some of the greats who played at Valpo as freshman.  Here is what I found:

                MPG     PPG      3pt%        Asst/TO ratio

All            28.3    14.1      34.6           1.94

Cooper     29.9    13.2      36.3           0.62

Javon       31.2    11.0      28.9           1.25

Alec         29.6    12.7      38.3           0.75

Lubos       28.6    13.8      35.8           Not sure

Bryce       34.9     13.4     45.9          Not sure but very good!

So what we see here is All is the best in scoring per game while having the lowest minutes per game. At the same time his 3pt%  relatively everybody except Bryce, who is in a league of his own.  Then the asst/to ratio where All is most likely better than everybody again, except Bryce.

He still has a few games to go so who knows how he will rank when the season is over but it is safe to say, in my humble opinion, that All has had one of the greatest freshman seasons in Valpo history.

I can’t remember.  Did Rowdy get enough freshmen minutes to be in this conversation?

Bryce is the standard for Valpo guards, but we need to add an asterisk to his stats because the 3-point line was almost 2 1/2 feet shorter and the conference was much weaker than VU faces today. Though, Bryce did okay in the NBA with a 3-point line 4 feet farther out (23 ft, 9 in) than he was used to in college (19 ft, 9 in).

Not really! Only 15.4 minutes per game with 6.4 points. I wouldn't call him a project but he more of a raw talent than was classmate Matt Kenny and he was directly competing with Howard Little and Micheal Rogers for available playing time.

….and look at what he accomplished in his Valpo career.  Look, I love what AP did and his professional career is nothing short of insane, but the soft spot in my heart for Ryan is that he was so exuberant and smiled so often. You could see he just loved playing. And that continued after Valpo. And having Koala on the forum didn’t hurt either.

I would also like to piggyback on this. bear in mind Bryce was before my time. Bryce, while the "star system" was not really used in the 90s, was largely believed to be a 4-4.5 star athlete wasn't he"? Didn't he only attend VU over P5  schools because of his dad being the coach.

If the above is correct. The Bryce standard is truly the pinnacle for Valpo as he was an athlete who should have been at a higher level/ If you are comparing someone to Bryce, they have to be a pretty damn good athlete, and in this modern age, should get all the money you can afford to give thrown at him.

More generally, All is not without his issues. He has selfish play, and makes errors in high leverage situations. That being said, he is also a freshman, and his "bugs" are being worked out. If he stays, he has the potential to be a star guard in the MVC. I did see a beacon bit about how many points he would need to be the all time leader, but I neglected to bookmark it

Alec Peters as a freshman was more productive than Wright and a much better player overall. Bryce was as well in a somewhat similar role. Wright has the highest scoring average but that's not a sign of production in his case since he's firing up more shots than either Drew or Peters and anyone else on the current roster.....while shooting less than 40%.

Rez,

you are correct. Bryce chose Valpo over Notre Dame. Was Mr. basketball. and an Indiana All-Star. Definitely a P5 recruit.

i agree with Alec Peters probably being our best freshman essentially in modern history.

I also think All Wrights ceiling is below Drew, Broekhoff and Peters. But it’s very real he couldend up the 4th best player in modern history. Which is saying something

Peters was as advertised as a Freshman, polished. Delivered and by the time it was the CIT game versus Columbia, it was his team in the post season, carried them to a near victory/heartbreaking buzzer beater loss.

Rowdy's minutes were not as consistent, showed a lot of potential. Brandon Wood, Kenny, Howard Little, lotta other scorers on that team. Not as much pressure on him to score

Bryce, had Dave Redman on his team, but what sealed it was the triple over time conference tourney title win over Western Illinois. Wasn't afraid to take the shot in that game. Multiple big time three pointers in the biggest moments. Western was a good team that year. Rest of conference weak.

I would put Wright below the three listed above, but lets see what happens. Wright is on the least talented team.

I agree that Wright has a ceiling lower than Drew. My major issue with him is the shot selection (Though sometimes I don't really blame him considering the major droughts this roster has the potential to go through). From what I have seen in film, Wright works best when others on the team are also performing. When others can make buckets, it keeps him out of "takeover mode" as I would probably call it.
