I saw a Twitter post Dale Carlson and Matthew Symmes are coming back as advisors for the athletic department.

Paul if you could also confirm?

4 additions including the coach in question. QC on the offensive side. Film cutter upper essentially.

Looking at that write up, all of those coaches had playing experience and a college degree except for Maddox. Hence therefore I stand by comments that this is an embarrassing look.

Yes. The football world is devastated by this news.

Is Stephen A. on campus yet?

I'm gonna hold your hand when I say this, but lots of coaches hire former players as an "assistant coach". They are basically interns who want to learn how to do the job before seeking other coaching opportunities once they gain experience

@rezynezy maddox is neither a former player nor has a college degree. So you can hold my beer. Obviously comprehension isn’t your strong suit

@vusupport I thought you were referencing Viestra. Seeing as your grievances were against coaches with little experience, he fit the bill as he is only a player. Even then, Maddox is a quality control coach. Otherwise known as a "film Jockey". It is an introductory coaching position which specializes in game perorations by watching film and looking for things to key up on. Which any couch potato fan can likely do. Maddox also has coaching experience, he was the OL coach for City. You are acting as if this guy has 0 experience when it comes to offensive football.

As for reading comprehension. Forgive me for skimming over the words of a raving lunatic.

@rezynezy once again your reading comprehension skills are remarkable for a Valpo grad. Not my fault you can’t understand that even most film jockeys have playing experience (which he doesn’t have) or a college degree for quality control coaching positions. Also I don’t put too much credence in the fact he was a volunteer oline coach at Michigan City. Heck anyone can volunteer coach at Michigan City hs football.

@VUSupport  So, by your standards, Scott Drew (you’ve probably heard the name), head coach at Baylor who coached the Bears to the 2021 NCAA National Championship, is an embarrassment to college basketball.  You see, Scott never played a second of college basketball while attending Butler. And without a degree, he joined the Butler MBB staff for two years as a student assistant prior to receiving his bachelor’s in 1993. 😱😱😱 OMG, what was Butler thinking!

What you need to grasp is that the “hire” in question is not unusual at all. It is replicated across most college sports as a common practice at even the highest levels.  Often, as with this case, the coach makes the decision based on more than just paper qualifications and it serves two purposes:  it’s very cheap part-time labor and it frees position coaches from mundane tasks so that they can concentrate on more important duties. As far as the candidate goes, by getting this semi-volunteer job, it is no different than an under-paid internship that many inexperienced people seek in order to build up their experience portfolio and subsequent hire-ability. It’s a cost-effective win-win.

@vusupport Once again. The guy has experience on the offensive side of the ball. He was the OL coach at Michigan City. MC is well known for their feats in this department. Your continuance to focus on someone who is in an entry level position for coaching, and has coaching expierience nonetheless, is mindboggling.

Scott Drew was a student manager, not a  assistant coach that was stated in the article on the Valpo Athletics website. I can go all day, and you’ll get exposed as an idiot

I don't get this 'controversy.' Who cares if there are some extra people standing around the sidelines of a football game? And why the pearl-clutching around 'experience'? On the academic side of the house, because of all the turnover, VU hires random adjunct or short-term contract folk without PhDs or sometimes even Masters, and sometimes rather dubious/thin content-related experience, to cover GenEd courses all the time.

Once again. QC is an entry level coaching position. Maybe if he had that college degree, he would have gotten a better role on the Wardle staff. You cannot say for certain. QC is a position on staffs commonly reserved for people who want to get into the coaching business at the collegiate level. Maddox has experience as the OL coach of MC. By your logic, no one is qualified to coach, it takes experience to get into coaching and you argue that you must have experience in order to coach! (The Paradox of Experience)
