good information - so for this year, I guess Valpo gets 2*$2M/12 teams/6 years which is about $56K annually for 6 years. Crumbs compared to the big picture.
True, but remember that we were in the league (2018) when Loyola made the final four. We've been getting our share of that run to the final four since. Final four means five wins. There were only 10 teams in the conference then so maybe 150k per year to Valpo? Again, crumbs in the greater big picture, but at least bigger ones!
Good win for Drake. West Virginia is the latest rumor for McCollum.
Iowa (likely the top) and Virginia are on the rumor mill. I wonder if Indiana has buyers remorse getting DeVries so early.
I saw a McCollum Indiana rumor before DeVries' name came up. I assume he wasn't a secret to Indiana.

WVU is going after Calhoun at Utah State (former WVU top assistant under Huggins), while McCollum is either going to be Iowa or UVA bound.
Virginia's hiring Ryan Odom
Looks like both Iowa and WVU have McCollum as their first choice. This is assuming he wants to leave.
Definitely no guarantee Ben McCollum leaves for another school. Following the Iowa board, they would love to have him.
McCollum is as good as gone. Stirtz will go with him. He hitched his wagon to NW Mo St. for a very long time, and is now on the upswing like never before, and he would be wise to strike while he is hot.

Considering that it's unlikely that future options will be better options than these, I definitely agree.
At the end of the game, the announcer mentioned that D2 players can play in D1.
also, I don’t think you will see players like JT Toppin in the MVC…Texas Tech’s inside game was an entirely different level for Drake to handle…
Well, in this case, instead getting it, they’re losing it. Just announced over ESPN: It comes as no surprise that McCollum is on to Iowa after just one [incredible] season at Drake.
We'll see just how much Drake gets it at this point, as they struck gold with DeVries/his son and McCollum bringing a pedigree of 4 D2 national championships, as well as 4 seasoned players. People forget how down Drake was between the 2007-2008 and 2017-2018 seasons.
Yep, this was expected and probably planned several weeks ago
I was listening to Get Up on ESPN, where Seth Greenberg compared today's mid major teams to the NBA G League. Excellent anlaogy with the NIL and transfer protocol effect.
With the disparity of the haves and have nots, I'm starting wonder if Valpo should step out as it is becoming a lost cause - unless the NCAA provides some regulation which is as dependable as the Three Stooges performing a successful surgery for duty and humanity.
My concern about stepping down is that, without some sort of strength in numbers: Ie getting many schools to make the drop while making clear statements about why they are doing it, it just feeds into a "these schools are struggling" narrative which Valpo and others will be desperate to avoid. You need either a coordinated pull out to DII with some names like Valpo that have some weight as former or recent Basketball Schools. The types that the NCAA/media love to talk about and point to when they need Cinderella stories or upsets to juice their feel good filler segments between games.
I saw it mentioned that Drake was looking at the coach of High Point as a possibility.
As far as mid majors are concerned. Each of the programs left is pretty much a power program. BYU might be thought of, mistakenly, as not part of the top rung but they are not only really good but have the no. 1 recruit coming in next year. There are only so many roster spots to go around and this should trickle down into the mid majors. What Valpo needs to do if figure out how to be competitive within the lot they've chosen....the MVC. All of the programs in the MVC will face the same problem at the very least from time to time.

Calhoun definitely is in the driver’s seat for WVU
How's this for irony. Niko Medved lasted 1 or 2 seasons at Drake, before leaving for Colorado State. He lasts 6-7 seasons, and just accepted at Minnesota. DeVries lasts 6-7 seasons at Drake, taking over for Medved, lasts 1 season at WVU, and just accepted at Indiana University. McCollum has a long/successful career at NW Mo. St., lasts 1 season at Drake, and just accepted at Iowa. All 3 will now play each other in conference each season, and can swap Drake stories. Who took the better path?
