Just got an updated list from Verbalcommits... NATE HEISE and others leaving UNI...

and I missed the first two... who were on page 2 of the MVC filter I used... Christian Jones, 6'5" point guard from UIC and Troy D'Amico 6'7 F from SIU

Holy cow!  Even the best coaches can't stop the greed!

Curious as to how much play time some of these transfers from non-coaching carousel teams got. One would assume these transfers are as a result of not getting play time.

Student Athletes would argue that even the best players can't stop the Coach greed to advance, as well

Paul's Victory Bell piece reports that Belmont has already lost its top two scorers and may lose its third leading scorer. This from a 20-win team. How in blazes can a mid-major build a winning tradition when the top players from a winning squad are bailing on it? You'd like to think these guys would already be talking about how to create some magic next season, but instead they're racing to the portal.

All of which contributes to the retention of Schwieger and Stafford as both substantive and symbolic wins. Schwieger could put up solid 14/6 type numbers next year, and with some added scoring punch to draw away some of the defenders on him, Stafford could score 12-14 ppg on over 40% shooting.

What is the web site for the portal list, etc?

@david81 From what I'm seeing Belmont is loosing 2 to eligibility, 1 to the portal, and 1 who is electing for the draft. Curious to see if there is anything going on in the locker room or team chemistry wise that has made these guys transfer

and DUAX entered right after I downloaded the list.   Here's a link, that is pre-filtered for just MVC activity.

https://www.verbalcommits.com/conferences/missouri-valley

They are in order of their filings... and goes WAY back in history, so watch the dates on the left side.

The "TRANSFERED" means leaving, the "OFFERED" means this would be an incoming person

"Penn grad transfer Clark Slajchert tells Portal Updates that he’s heard from the following schools: UCLA Kansas Cal Arkansas Clemson Penn State Virginia Valpo Loyola Chicago Texas A&M Rutgers Indiana San Francisco SMU Vermont Wyoming GW Ole Miss UCSB Santa Clara New Mexico....6’1” All-Ivy League guard averaged 18.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 2.9 APG, and 1.2 SPG. Shot 42% from 3 (57/135)."--Twitter

Obviously some steep competition, but Powell is targeting guards that can shoot so far. Still haven't seen us reach out to any Centers.

I haven't seen any activity from centers. We need shooting depth which I'm glad is being addressed. Give guys like Stafford a break from shooting, and have a 6th man.

Only reason I'd see this kid coming to Valpo is if he is a religious guy. We cant really offer him much in terms of NIL. He does seem to be a guy who is big on charity, which Powell is focusing on in NIL ventures

You would think that a Penn grad would care about the education he would receive in his last year of eligibility, so it automatically knocks out a few of those schools listed (in my view)

Including Valpo, but we'll see.

Anyone want to guess how many current guys go into the portal before Valpo fills the roster?

I'll say 3.

Isn’t our roster full right now?  I realize Palm and Barrett had their senior day, but they could stay one more year, graduate and not play anywhere next year, or graduate and enter portal.  Since we haven’t already signed anyone for next year (other than McNair), it seems premature to assume those two spots are open. It would seem that Powell’s mentioning of talent coming in that we’d have some signings if these two scholarships were available.

The fact that no one immediately entered portal says to me we have some solidity of teammates. I think this is a good sign. Powell and staff are building something. Building takes time.

Not counting Palm/Barrett, I think we’ll see 2 enter portal.

I believe Palm/Barrett will graduate and enter workforce. I think we’ll get two or three transfers or JC, and one more freshman - hopefully another sleeper like Cooper.

What about that walk on kid at Wright St? I think his name is Carson Schwinger or Schwanger or something. Somebody told me his twin brother had a pretty decent rookie season. Smile

March of 2019. As our beat writer put it. All hell broke loose with Bakari, Smits, Sorola and co transferring, JFL on Thursday.etc...Those dudes couldn't wait to stick it Lottich. Agreed culture much better here.  I think we all expect a transfer or two.
