Always Wright is also in the portal.
As of 5PM Tuesday March 25th ..... 1166 D1 transfers and 752 D2 transfers. Did not see Ramzi Salem listed anywhere. Did someone see it in a tweet? Speaking with Darius he thought Ramzi would do ok at VU
From X:
Cooper reportedly has completed calls with Kansas, Northwestern, Michigan, and Wake Forest
Not a player, but Valpo has added a new assistant coach, Jesse McClung, former head coach at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
I had heard that Valpo was losing a coach. Saint Marys of the wood had a great year. Perhaps several of his players will come along with him. Had a 6'2 Sr. Guard that averaged 19.5 a game and a 6'9 sophomore center that averaged 14.5 pts per game and 12.2 rebounds per game. Just a thought on my part. An NAIA school.

Seems like an odd move. Goes from HC to assistant coach at a program not known for big money payments to anyone.

Exhibition game this season was against them.
Thinking two things: Roger can recognize talent and when you get a HBB job anywhere at whatever level and you can immediately win 25 and 28 games in only two years, you have some coaching chops. He’s leaping from NAIA way up to NCAA DI, salary gap is probably negligible for that.
I sincerely hope, for the sake of these young men, they are putting some thought into these decisions before making them.
Category A: All W & Cooper S = completely understandable. Unless you come from money, I cannot fault players like these if they have the sheer volume of interest on the table being reported. Opportunity + dollars.
Category B: On a scholarship + have potential but didn't get much Playing Time at Valpo. For the sake of these young men, I sincerely hope they have some connections and can land somewhere where they can get a scholarship & some playing time. Ex: Ellis, Scroggins?
Category C: Walk-on + showed an ability to perform at a mid-major level as a 6th man or role player (Ex: Tyler). I suppose there's less risk here in that he wasn't on scholarship + wasn't getting a lot of NIL. So, he's betting on himself.
Category D: Walk on + didn't play ... (Ex: Ramzi). Idk ... again, I suppose the risk factor is low if you didn't have a scholarship.
Then, there's a 5th category that Valpo can be on the receiving end on ....
Category E: Power 4 conference player with a 2+ star ranking who isn't getting the PT he desires. This has existed before NIL and is bound to exist in the NIL era, too. The difference, I presume, is that the quality of player may not be there like it once was ... otherwise, a guy would go to a place where he can get a decent NIL package.
Is it accurate to assume that kids want, in this order, minutes first, NIL second? Meaning if you've got the minutes already (e.g., Coop) you now go for the NIL. Versus Ellis who did not get the minutes and now he just wants to be on the court for 25-30 minutes. And then there are all the in-betweeners. What a cluster.
Hopefully Cooper goes more towards Northwestern or Wake Forest, and not Michigan or Kansas. He wouldn't get much playing time at these better programs in his Junior year, and would likely be a second unit guy as MI/KS. To succeed at these high level programs, he needs to work on his dribbling in traffic, offensive quickness, and 3 pt shot release point.

Agreed. He's seeing 10 minutes a game tops at a program like Kansas.
Probably all names listed somewhere but pasting here for reference. I know a D1 coach that is a good friend (not basketball). He was frustrated with the portal before, extra frustrated now. He believes kids chase money and glory when they need to think about their future more (post basketball, finishing degree). Hope thats not the case with these guys.
