I tend to disagree with @cmack but he has some valid points. A team gets better with better competition and not with warm fuzzy wins over ham and eggers. This is analogous to my years as a dance dad, where dancers feel great for top rankings from the a lame competition. But as long as we feel we are on the top of world - who cares!
regarding more payout being in the MVC in the NCAA tournament - after you split it, the delta is no more than an extra $200k to Valpo. In the great scheme of things, that’s insignificant.
@usc4valpo Are you on the right string? This is women’s BB not NIL/portal stuff.
I honestly thought we would have the new coach in place by now...The Victory Bell had some interesting possibilities and a few non starters. Castator has left but she took a leave late in the season so no surprise.
The current coach at Purdue-FW, Maria Marchesano, has done a great job with their program. Took over a program that 3 or 4 years ago had won only 1 game all year(lost around 28 or so) and now they are in the final 8 of the NIT. She originally is from FW and went to Butler. She has recruited well ands also has used the portal to develop their program. I believe they were the highest ranked program(80) of the Women's NIT Sweet Sixteen.

@azvalpo She got in trouble, we'll leave it at that. As far as the new coach hire, from what I've heard they had a bunch of promising candidates interview and a decision could be coming shortly.
Jackson's in the portal, more coming? 1100 in the portal no coach to investigate.
Not a surprise that the twins would go into the portal with a coaching change. I also believe that one of our posters is their father, as I forget who said it, but it was mentioned that "the twins would do what is best for them," regardless if Evans ended up being let go. I think that they were leaving, regardless of coach.
Boyd new coach!
Another example of Hosmer hiring an established HEAD coach, not some assistant who hasn't had the leadership experience.
Seems like a quality hire. She inherits a roster of point guards and wings. Hopefully we land some size.
Think she can re-recruit the twins?
And recruit some athletic bigs?
I like this hire a lot, imitating the successful Softball hire with someone that has put in their time as a coach, had success as a HC at the NAIA and D2 levels, and could potentially bring a player(s) from her previous team.
Paul just Tweeted that 5’7” Jessica Carrothers (Crown Point HS grad) now at IU Northwest just hit the portal. She originally played at Butler as a freshman and was selected to the All Big East Freshman team before transferring to IUN - so she can play at an MVC level. She had two great scoring years at IUN. She will be a senior.
Stat highlights:
23-24 NAIA AA 2nd team
24-25 31.4 ppg (1st in the NAIA)
24-25 57.2 FG %age
24-25 101 steals (#5 in the NAIA)
24-25 NAIA AA 1st team
24-25 NAIA Player of the Year
Could be a great first get for the new WBB program

The one position where we have depth is at the point. As for the twins, they signed with Butler so a step up conference wise.
@vu72 I look at 5’7”, 31+ ppg, 100+ steals, and 50+% from the floor and I don't see a PG. I see a 2. And our new coach has said they will have a back-to-the-basket 5 ….. but 1-4 will be fluid.
Interestingly, comments to her announcement pushed P4 (TCU, TENN, ND**). OTOH, she xferrd out of Butler after a great first year to come back home???? Hey, Crown Point is a speed bump away from DI Valpo and a WBB program looking to explode under a new, proven and energetic coach (who also was a guard). 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
**Of those three, she’d be a role player, not a bell cow. At VU, that kind of shooting would be All-Conference. Granted a bigger fish in a smaller pond, but what the hell, GO AFTER HER! I don’t see her looking for being far away from home, in a new world for only one year and playing off the bench. Valpo is right in her wheelhouse.
