Really? How have we gotten to the point where these schools are possibly more enticing to Stafford than remaining at Valpo?

Funny, Stafford mentioned in his interview with Paul Oren that he was tired of living in 4 season weather and was looking to going south or west. Did not realize Kent State, Toledo, SIU, Longwood were in the South. LOL. Think it was more about money, don't you? 5 of the schools are state schools which could mean more bucks.

No inside knowledge but went to a couple away games and sat behind the bench. Roger managed very well... All the guys listened to him, things not going well he didnt flip out on them. It was "here is what we are going to do" conversations. I think the portal is just a sign of our times unfortunately.
For Stafford maybe the prospects he wanted the ones and he got didnt exactly match up? Either way I believe in Powell and am optimistic he will have them ready to compete in the fall.
Well it seemed very obvious with Lottich, some of the players hated him. That whole situation with Golder and Bakari. It does seem like Powell has the locker room. I think with Cooper and Wright leaving, the supporting cast said adios. The two best players left and they are going to find another party. Mostly about money, but if Cooper and or Wright stayed, you gotta believe a few others would have stayed. Or maybe I don't know what the hell I am talking about and their is other information out there we don't know, but if their was it would likely be known by now.
In the Breakfast talk, Powell mentioned that Stafford was of the mindset that "I have 1 year left. I just go injured. I want to test the waters and see what I can get." Almost seemed like he was desprate...
I do wonder if for some students knowing that they only have the four years any money is better than no money even it means less playing time. My biggest concern with all of this NIL is that it's going to encourage very short term thinking that not only impacts future basketball careers but also means that these players are coming out of college with less desirable degrees/less networking abilities/less skill development for working in the real world
Sometimes a feel like we romanticize the past with regard to Stafford. He was decent. He had some big games. He would have been a helpful piece, but he was not a game changer in my my mind. He was a "best player on the worst team" guy. I wish him the best and I think neither his departure nor his landing spot reflects anything in particular about the program. He is just another symptom of the same disease of transfer/NIL. We can find another Stafford, I have no doubt.
@beacon92 - degrees? networking after college? the next thing we will hear is that they are student athletes. It is all about getting the best payout for Stafford and these players.

Powell isn’t going anywhere. He is under at least a five year contract. As an aside, am watching the Valpo softball game and spotted him there with a tall young man!
@vu72 I have info on that young man, Or should I say, young men. Word is one of them his likely suspected to sign after the conclusion of the tour.
Either would be a better transfer than we were able to corral all of last offseason. Promising.
Regardless of if guys like these sign, its proof of concept that there are still guys out there that care about more than just the money. Turning 2 "no name" recruits into top portal stars is something that talent begins to notice.
Based solely on on the hair style, I would say it was Robert’s with Coach Powell
