Coach Garrison just dropped a “boom”!
Well you have a 50/50 shot at guessing who it is...
Portal math: Are the 10 guys we get better than the 10 guys we lost?
Are there 10 players out of 2000+ in the portal that believe in the concept that Valpo is transformative program rather than a transactional program? If the boom is either of the two players mentioned above, I think we are off to a good start.
So this year's "boom"s are better than last years?
Hypothetically speaking. How would you feel if Valpo’s NIL budget was around 500k a year, with 200K total dedicated to going towards the top two players?
would you think we are able to field a respectable, not top, but respectable roster for the MVC? Personally, I think this is enough to land some players with quality upside, but not enough to keep them if they turn into a star.
500k is a decent bit more than a couple of the Valley schools currently have. Belmont is collective less and UE certainly doesn't have the fan support to pony up 500k in dabloons for a team.
I would say 500k gets you middling with a surge every once in a while. Although all of this could change if MVC decided to opt into rev share
Any rumors of a center? I really cannot stomach another year without a major post presence or two.
Dease looks to be a good pick up. I especially like how his shooting has gotten better each year thus far. Between his sophomore and junior years, his 3-pt shooting went from 29% to 38%, and his FT shooting went from 83% to 92%. (I hope his improvements continue and he can get to the line more, since he only averaged 2 free throws per game.) Finally, I appreciate that he is already experienced and not a freshman who will be developed for transfer in a couple years. On paper, chalk this one up as a plus.
The notion of player development is done.
For mid-majors, if you find a diamond in the rough and coach him into stardom (or even rotation-ready), he probably leaves.
For top teams, as soon as a kid is advised to declare for the draft, he's likely gone.
I recall football coach George Allen's philosophy, "The future is now," explaining why he often traded away all of his top draft picks and loaded up on ready-to-play veterans.
That should be the new NCAA D1 MBB mantra. Never look beyond the next season.
Dease looked like a guy who can help. Doubt he's a leading scorer type but what should have happened with Ellis last year but fizzled.
From what I've seen in film reels, his pick and pop 3 is really good. I suspect he pairs well with Hoppoi who is tearing it up in the NZ Basketball league at the moment
