This is. CRAZY. Queens will be transitioned to DI in 26-27 🙀. He had a chance to start at an established DI and his work ethic in the few games we’ve seen makes so much sense to stay. On the surface, that was a stupid decision. There has got to be more to this than we know.
Odd move by Carson. But he barely played until the last 4/5 games. Carson scored 50 total points on the season... With his brother also leaving and not much playing time, it’s kinda understandable to go somewhere else. Thanks for a fun stretch
Gus Etchison is visiting on Wednesday. https://muknights.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/gus-etchison/11899 He was at Western Michigan before he was at Marion. Both Midwest schools. Averaged 24 ppg last year. Probably a more athletic Schmidt but definitely smaller.

Exactly why I mentioned that Queens is a short distance from Wake Forest. My theory is that he is wanting to be close to Cooper for family reasons. Maybe he didn't make the cut at Wake?
I see three possible reasons for Carson leaving:
1) he wanted to play closer to Cooper.
2) the NIL was better at Queens.
3) problems with the coaching staff
we can’t do anything if it was option 1.
We know that Valpo has little NIL money to work with. Money talks, so it doesn’t matter that Valpo plays in a better conference. I would be interested in finding out how much he’s getting at Queens and how that compares to VU.
Option 3…I think the jury is out. I have to admit that I don’t like the fact that the entire team left. If there is a canary in the coal mine it is Schmidt and Shaw. Both of those guys have connections to the city and the university and they left after one year. Shaw also has family connections.
Maybe NIL has scrambled everything around and money trumps all. But I think it’s something the athletic department needs to keep an eye on.

4. Playing time.
Also, Schmidt got an absolute bag at Towson. No hate, but I don’t know if he’s worth 30k+… Most people transfer for 2 reasons. 1) Money 2) Playing time. Some at Valpo got a bag and others barely played. Valpo probably doesn’t have a great NIL, but idk if someone that barely contributed all season is worth a decent percentage of our NIL.

Not sure on those numbers. 19.8 per game last year in just 6 games. 23.1 the prior year. That's what's on the Marian site.
Appears to be a volume shooter which is not something which would endear him to me but Powell may want to put him out there and have him fire away.
@jd24 apologies he medical redshirted last year. I guess he has 2 years of eligibility left. https://twitter.com/pdtscouting/status/1911913754469531707?s=46&t=fQBy6wyBd319kJMo4acd_Q Here’s were I got more info/highlights
Carson will do well at Queens. It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up being the Ognacevic for them, if he sticks around
Etchison's game reminds me of All. Obviously a shorter version but shows some serious hops.
Powell Boom #2.

Based on what exactly? Other than similar height he showed very little to project a similar career.
Mentioned back on March 26th that Saint Marys of the Wood had a 6'9 Center that averaged14.5 ppg and 12.5 rpg this year and maybe this player would come along with the coach. Well this is the kid. Will be a junior. 230 lbs. From Brownsburg IN.
Now THESE are the types of transfers I've been waiting for for years. Why did it take so long to figure this out? I figured we were just not capable of getting impactful transfers due to NIL or facilities or whatever, but here we are.
A 10ppg 38% three point shooter from an above .500 Division 1 team.
15/12/2 Center from a really solid D3 program, a player that dominated us in an exhibition.
Still had a visit today from Etchison, who puts up big numbers. Even if the off-season ended today, I would already be happier than I was with last year's portal haul in which the feature player was a 1.8ppg transfer from another mid-major and a couple of guards that we knew couldn't shoot the three.
