So as of right now, what might a way too early starting five look like?
Right now the roster sits at 10. 8 if we arent counting walk-ons. Given the roster in its current form, I would say the way too early 5 are as follows.
Barnes- SG
Dease- Fwd
Tupuola - Center
Chaney - PG
Hoppoi - Fwd
Realisitcally, you can mix and match a few of the gaurds and forewards. But Chaney and Tupuola are the only true PG and Center on roster from my quick glance.
Still in the hunt for Etchison? I didnt see anything about him committing yet.
Carson will do well at Queens. It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up being the Ognacevic for them, if he sticks around
What are we doing here?
I'm ok with someone pinning my post and revisiting in 2 seasons. Jacob had absolutely no inside game until Lipscomb, and was really just a 3 point shooter for us and them, but worked on his game. He actually became more of an inside guy in a conference with smaller bigs. I can see the same for Carson, if he really works on himself.
Interesting part of this article are the comments on coaches about how bad players are making too much money. I wonder if there's a sense, maybe encouraged by agents, that there are only going to be a couple years where this type of money is flying around for everyone and eventually it will clamp down so don't miss it.
This is just not the way the sports world works. If there is money, it will be spent. Let's definitely not pin our hopes on the market correcting itself in our favor. No one with $100M budget is suddenly going to start getting cost effective. And that lack of self-control will simply trickle down. Certainly the NBA has not stopped overpaying bad players and that is the source for a lot of these newly created GM of basketball rules are coming from.
Congratulations to PO for an outstanding introduction to new recruit Shon Tupuola. A much needed breath of fresh air. Thank you!
@vok22 We only have five players?? Haven't really been paying attention for a while now.
Jeff Bidwell just reported on his podcast that Powell apparently picked up JQ Roberts from Vandy. I know there were rumors of this circulating on Twitter, but I didn't think it was confirmed. Anyone have info on this?
Not on whether he’s signed, but some background. 6’8” PG, soph. Appeared in 21 games, no starts, averaged 4 minutes per game and 1.0 ppg. Originally out of Bloomington, IN.

Also a four star ESPN recruit. If true we might have the tallest lineup in the Valley. 6'8"(or taller) PG, SG, 3,4 and 5!!
As for playing time, those numbers were last year, The previous year he had four starts for Vandy.
I think Vanderbilt changed coaches between his freshman and sophomores years and that might be why he did not get as much playing time
Hopefully better than this but backup 4 and 5 at this point. Experienced PG and a pure scorer needed.
JQ is not a PG. Vandy coach lists his entire roster as a PG. He would be a great pickup but is more of a 3 or 4.
JQ Roberts has committed to Davidson.
