@valpo15 It’s about natural talent. I believe that in the individual, minor sports like women’s golf the coaching at the college level is fine tuning, not development from scratch. It’s  not so much the “coaching” as it is the due diligence and energy devoted to recruiting great athletes. Golfers , tennis players, swimmers, bowlers, and even track and field athletes are out there. Those kind of kids are not always impressed by big universities. Especially because there are few athletic scholarships to go around — those go to the money sports. These kids, are high achievers and, generally, value their education.  They feel comfortable in a family community. Valpo offers all of that and a campus visit can seal the deal. I’ve always maintained that Valpo has a great recruiting platform for this kind of kid, especially when you say “and we’re DI.”  Yes, it’s the coaching, but the coach has to find and doggedly recruit — that’s the most important skill.

Looks like Valpo comfortably placed 5th at the MVC golf tournament (+11 combined). The top three Valpo finishers placed in 4th, 17th, and 24th. The next three rotated and each played 2/3 rounds. Not too bad of a finish. 2 Strokes out of 4th.
