Seriously, Valpo just needs talent desperately despite the position needs. I say recruit and get someone local!
Should be all hands on deck to get Carrothers. What I heard when she transferred out of Butler was that she wanted to be back home and didn’t love the pressure of power conference D1. Hopefully those criteria still hold and that we can throw what little money we can at her too.
And if you haven’t seen her shot form, look it up. It’s really janky. Whatever works though…
The whole thing about Valpo in just about all sports is family. She would fit right in. GO GET HER!
A former NAIA national championship coach is not going to shy away from recruiting top NAIA kids. I've said it before, but from a baseball perspective, I could barely tell any difference between top NAIA and D2 guys that I played with during the summers/in-between college seasons, and our D1 teammates. Even now in old man baseball, my teammates who are former D2 can absolutely rake at times.
Coach has added her top assistant from Quincy. All the old Valpo assistants are gone from the website, no real surprise there. Hill moved on to Oakland. Edit, Whitt is back on the website as an assistant.
The Jackson move to Butler is also not surprising as their brother had already transferred there from PFW.
Butler hasn't had a winning season the last 5 seasons and either graduated or lost by transfer 10 of their top 11 players so playing time should not be a problem.
Layla Gold followed Coach Hill to Oakland where they have a coaching change and 9 in the portal. She had her moments but was wildly inconsistent.
@azvalpo Layla played the second half of the season with a torn labrum. A lot of her inconsistency can be attributed to that, she will be quite a good player when developed and healthy.
We have signed our first transfer. Makayla Huffine, a senior who has ran Quincy's offense for two years. This makes a lot of sense. Since Evans had already added 2 PG's we now have a roster of 10, 7 of which are PG's. Size to follow I assume. I know we have an offer to a HS Senior 6-2 from Tulsa.

Quincy women had a pretty good season, believe they won their conference tourney last year. I cant rattle off stats, but she came from a good winning team so guessing this is a good pickup.

Huffine will be the bridge player who will help communicate Boyd’s system to her teammates. I would suggest that in hiring Courtney Boyd, Valpo has hired, arguably, its most qualified coach in the last 10 years based on career performance.
Her coaching record is 190-68 (.736) in eight years as a HC (as well as coming up the assistant coach ladder at numerous other colleges). She turned Clark University around in her first year there and took them to five NAIA tournaments in six seasons and won the NAIA national title in 2022-23. She then turned around a losing Quincy program and in her second year there won the the GLVC tournament for the first time in school history and added the NCAA tournament bid also for the first time ever. She has proven herself as a winner, and that can be very convincing on the recruiting trail. Can’t wait to see who she finds to fill the remaining 5 slots.

Carothers signed with UIC.
