First chance to see the team and get free barbeque!  Wish I could be there but, no doubt, a few of the folks on this board will be there.  So, if you go, please take a few minutes and give us your impressions!  Thanks!

I am told Valpo will be playing a secret scrimmage against Ball State next week.

@valpopal You would be correct. Confirmed by The Rev during Valley Media day.

So nobody on this board went to a free scrimmage of of basketball team or at least was unwittingly to post some info in what wawas seen.

Im done. This board is a shadow of its former self. I may check in for a view from time to time but I’m done posting.

@vu72 I mean... if its any consolation Paul was there and will likely be putting out an in depth analysis. They kind of shot themselves in the foot doing this scrimmage at noon when football kicked off at 1pm

No time for me to squeeze this scrimmage in but I'm sure it was interesting. Reading between the lines of The Victory Bell article I'm noticing 12 player names mentioned with no comment on Carson Schwieger. I'm not surprised by this but the generalized pecking order of all our centers coming off the bench leaves me with many questions.

Carson Schwieger is not expected to be a rotation player this season from my understanding.

Hope I'm not giving too much away but Paul's article mentioned a "starting" five absent, to me, a true center. Positionless basketball is all the rage these days but the lineup shown would likely have Cooper defending inside. I felt one of last year's team's biggest weaknesses were interior defense (sometimes defense in general) and, in particular, rebounding. So that surprises me.

Of course, what's shown in a public scrimmage may certainly not end up being the actual 5 who run out on the court for the tip in a few weeks.

I attended the scrimmage.  There really wasn't a whole lot to report.  Devon Ellis looked impressive, but no one else stood out as a dominating force on the court.  I would guess that the three-point percentage was no more than 30% in spite of the low pressure nature of the morning.  I learned after the scrimmage that the gold team would be the starters -- I wish that I had paid better attention to which players were in which team. It's always nice to get a sense of who the team members are as individuals and watch their interactions with each other as well as with the coaches.

Nevertheless, I left the building more excited about the team than I was when I entered.  I like what Roger is trying to do with the team, especially in this time of NIL and now without LOIs.

BTW the sound system is still bad.

So nobody stood out and they shot poorly but you left more excited than when you entered? You must’ve had pretty low expectations going in.

Of all the things on the long list of complaints about the fan experience at the ARC, the most mentioned on this board over the past ten+ or so years, has not been the lighting, the scoreboard, the seating, or concessions to name a few. The run away complaint has always been the sound system. Yet, despite continual criticism, this one issue has been ignored year after year.  Is anyone listening? Bang Head

Well vok I assume it's hard to get a read on a team from an intersquad. Especially only 20 min of play and only learning who the starters are after the fact. From Oren's article I can only assume there has been a lot of improvement in certain spots.

As for the sound system, I wouldn't expect any more improvements to be made to the ARC any time soon. Considering a new arena is still on Padillas mind and all. The ARC was sorely neglected by many a previous administration. The only was I see it being touched again is to gut the place for tech to slap into a new venue, or to be converted into a volleyball only facility that also happens to be the rec center

I think the music sounds much better at the ARC, but the microphone is really hard to hear. That could be the product of people not knowing how to speak into a microphone. Some of the players sounded really good. Some didn't. I could barely make out what Powell was saying as he was walking around and talking.

There are hundreds of dollars solutions to mic problems. There might even be an engineering student willing to help solve the problem.

I mean, if some people sounded good and others didn't, that is most likely an issue of not knowing how to speak into a mic as Paul mentioned
