Check out these highlights as the No. 1 Indiana State Sycamores survive the upset attempt by the Cincinnati Bearcats, 85-81, in the NIT Quarterfinal. Sycamore Sophomore Robbie Avila scored 22 PTS and led the team in the win.
Good for ISU to be playing deep into the NIT. This had to feel like a sad consolation prize after all of the hype during the regular season. Reminds me a bit of the expectations for VU's 2015-16 squad.
ISUb 100 - Utah 90 tonight.
They are in the NIT final. ……… Just like we were back in the day.
They deserved WAY more than just the NIT tournament. If they win it proves to the whole basketball community just how snubbed they were.
The ISU - St. Johns "I Told You So" championship game will be a must-see TV. That home-crowd feel at that arena that shall remain unstated will certainly help the Trees.
@talksalot i believe it’s Seton Hall and in their game in Indianapolis the ISU fans completely overwhelmed the place according to posts on MVCFans. Should be another “home” game for the trees.
If they win, their record will be something like 33-3, second only to Larry Bird’s 33-1 team. A record like that should wind up getting them a top 10 final poll spot IMO.
@vulb62 sorry... of course... Seton Hall's Pirates... the bubble other team that the committee selected Virginia over...
Brings back great memories of our run to the NIT Championship game. I certainly think, for at least the players, that playing the game at Madison Square Garden versus a "local venue" would have made it a much bigger and memorable deal.
I also think that our run, or that of Indiana State, actually was a bigger deal for the school and national recognition than getting into the Dance and losing in the first or second round. Think of Drake's national exposure versus Indiana States! Games like last night, when it was the only show in town, certainly added to their national exposure.
First time at Hinkle and gotta say. This place does bot disappoint. I do believe I will not have my hearing for a while after final buzzer.
iSU loses in the last seconds but what a tight game.
Shouldn't have tried transition 3s with a 7 point lead IMOP. They needed that time at the end and should have drawn clock and looked for shots in the paint. But both teams pleaded their case tonight that they should have been in the tournament and both came out with valid arguments.
That is unfortunate, but it will be even more unfortunate in the next week, when their complete rebuild starts.
