Holy cow. Our golf team is racking up medals like crazy. Caleb just won at Penn State. Our guys are Valpo’s best representative in the MVC.
Caleb and Antony are generational talents, both headed to the H-O-F when eligible. Still, our overall depth is lacking and getting past Illinois State will be difficult. The Women on the other hand...never mind.
Agreed on those two unlikely to be repeated at Valpo, but maybe it sets a new precedent, since Golfers aren't competing for a lot of NIL (I wouldn't think)
Unfortunately this mvc championship is shaping up to be extremely frustrating. Caleb is only T8 and although Adam Melliere is stepping up we’re being dragged down the leaderboard by our 4th score. Hope the guys can turn it around
Three players in the Top 6 as of right now, but the 4th score is definitely hurting.
At least we’re not tanking as badly as preseason favorites Illinois state. And no surprise Missouri State are doing well as they’re hosting. Such a shame though, Caleb leaving will make it very tough to compete at the top
We have two of the top 10 in the conference but we don't have the depth that Southern Illinois has. When the guy playing in the five slot shoots in the 80's, you've got problems.
Wow we are storming down the back 9, Anthony especially! But sadly I think too late for anyone to take medalist honors. And we may well have 3 guys in the top 5 but only come 3rd
A great rally but just too far back to start the day. Tie for the best round of the day. I'm hoping and expecting that Caleb will get an invite to the NCAAs. A second place finish coupled with a top 50 or so ranking individually should do it.
A special tip of the hat to the best golfer of all time at Valpo, Caleb VanArragon, who completed his college career yesterday and will turn pro next week. He finished tied for 23rd of 75 at the Purdue regional NCAA tournament.
Caleb has every record available at Valpo but also was a very successful student, with a host of options available to him should professional golf not work out. He graduated with a double major of biology and statistics with a 4.0 GPA, followed by completing a masters in analytics and modeling, again with a 4.0 GPA, all within five years while competing and traveling around the country and beyond.
Valpo will be hard pressed to find a better student-athlete than this incredible young man. Congrats to Caleb and best of luck going forward. Let's hope we can see him play on Sundays in the not too distant future!
I'll be interested to see how his pro career turns out. It's hard to gauge where the PGA Tour golfers come from, but I would have to assume that most are in the top 20 throughout their college careers. Congrats to Caleb on a solid college career, nonetheless!
@valpotx He presented at VU last month on a model he developed predicting pro success based on college results and rankings. So if there’s anyone who can gauge that it’s him!
So we should start looking for the VonArragon Rating Services being used in the pro sports leagues?
Delisanti's round today was insane- 2 eagles!
What collegiate golfer shoots a 10 under 62 on a challenging course?!?!?
