While religious affiliation may be at an all-time low with today's young people, two things come to mind: (1) Lack of faith affiliation does not equate with lack of a search for values, and here's where VU has some valuable pieces to offer; (2) It's not as if Lutheran high schools have completely disappeared, and VU should be -- on balance -- getting a bigger share of them.

Yes, don't kick that can down the road to the new Pres!  Find the folks who bought Hunter Biden's paintings and move this fast!

I think it equally likely that the next president opts NOT to sell the paintings, in a gesture of showing alumni and students that it’s a new day at Valpo.

Prez then charges the advancement office with funding new dorms yesterday.

Homecoming is set for October 25!  That is kinda late.  Hope it doesn't snow!  Glad to see though that the rivalry game is finally set for the last game just like most every rivalry game across the country.

At this point I'd hope/assume he will sell them before he leaves. I know sales like this take awhile (I've heard the old 3m lot has been in legal process of selling for almost a year now) so it's possible something it already in the works. It's been argued by many (not just the president) that our dorms are atrocious and an active hinderance when it comes to competing with similar schools and also it's very hard to raise donor money for Residence Halls(they tried and couldn't get a naming sponsor or anything large for Beacon). Also a capital campaign will take years since they're not going to step on the one for the nursing school's toes right now. Sell the paintings, reform the residence hall and get out

As of a few weeks ago, one has been sold (not sure which one) and the big prize is waiting to go to auction in the spring when things like this sell better.

one has been sold

Do you have a source on that? I did a quick search and couldn't turn up any of the silver medalists being sold.

I did, however, discover that we have our own Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valparaiso_University_deaccessioning_controversy

Spoke with President Padilla in Dallas a few weeks ago.

Remarkable opinion article in the Torch today: https://www.valpotorch.com/opinion/article_024ea234-e511-11ef-b875-c3d928bc4141.html

Remarkable?  Amazing is more like it. Where to begin?  The indictment of Padilla is broad and far-reaching. This is a student-written perspective on the campus they are experiencing.  Wow.

Reading this adds a whole new view that we on this forum haven’t tapped. I don’t know how to respond.

Terrible, lazily written article with a lot of whining, and nothing new. Valparaiso is not strictly  a liberal arts university, and the technical attributes like enginnering, meteorology and nursing, are major recognized strengths we need to hype.  Padilla is leaving and this list has been discussed to ad nauseum and won’t alleviate the situation.

This article was a major bitching session and I hope the writer finds it to be therapeutic to his or her well being. Suggest solutions!

Well, you can’t say the Lutheran tradition isn’t alive and well at dear old Valpo! 😂

The article was written by two authors: Karson Hollander, an athletic and academic standout who is a biology/chemistry major and a member of the Track and Field team; Jackson Price, apparently a theology major who plans to be a pastor and whose story was featured by Valparaiso University on its Career and Alumni web page. Their words would claim the article is suggesting a solution by listing points to "act as a guide for the Presidential Search Committee over the next year." These are the kind of students whose voices should not be easily dismissed and should be given some consideration.

I’m not sure that building a new dorm is going to fix the problems that Valpo is currently facing. I would argue these are systemic issues.
