Stirtz for Drake is awesome and has great basketball IQ. He and Ben led the Bearcats North to another win.
I view it differently with Louth. I don't view him being in the game as directly correlating to us going down really quick. He only had the 1 time that he was taken off the dribble on a switch, while each of the other scores were on other guys not rotating fast enough. Drake shot lights out in the first half, making all of their wide open shots, as any D-1 basketball player at this level should be able to do. When you have a true big in the game, your other 4 guys have to know that they can no longer rely on having 5 quick defenders. It is a trade off if you don't want to give up constant offensive rebounds, as we did before Louth entered.
Overall, Drake did what they should have done, and made their open shots, while our lack of ball movement/relying on AAU fadeaways and reckless drives, did us in. We only had 5 assists, as we had so much iso, rather than working the ball into more successful shots.
@vuswim08-12 All I can tell you is to read Paul's article. Powell does go to bat for his guys. He has gotten visibly irate at the officials multiple games this season. He is not taking a tech with 10 to play in the first half. That's a clown show and supporting it is like putting on the clown makeup yourself
Drake's a tough team filled with a roster of guys who know how to play the game and a very good coach. Defensively Valpo was a bit lost particularly in the first half. Opponents defensive strategy seems to be pretty simple. That is to not let Schwieger get shots off and we'll take our chances with the rest of the roster. At least the last three games have looked like this. Powell's got to figure out a way to defeat it.
