Regardless of if guys like these sign, its proof of concept that there are still guys out there that care about more than just the money. Turning 2 "no name" recruits into top portal stars is something that talent begins to notice.

Wrong.  This is STILL outdated thinking.   If these or any other guys excel next year, they WILL LEAVE.  No one is coming here because of the culture and academics.  They are coming for playing time or $$$.   If they are coming for playing time, then it’s a one year investment with the goal to make the $$$ the following year.   We have to get to understanding this sooner than later.

You are so quick to tell others that they are "thinking outdated" when you were the one who couldn't get the HL out of your head and wanted to move back. The future is now old man. Stop intentionally misconstruing others words to fit YOUR narrative. Its not kind

Here is how it really works for you. Talent sees Cooper and All develop from 0s to hero's, and they want a slice of that as well. So they transfer in for 1 or 2 years and then leave to get their bag after they develop a little more and get some eyes on their game. That's how college ball works now. In the words of Powell, we say thank you and move on. Only way this changes is with contracts and buyouts We aren't going to change it old man.

@rez - I have taken a lot of grief from @cmack who finds joy in ham and egger victories, but he has a point. It is truly all about instant cash and gratification and it sucks. It makes me wondering if it is worth it long term unless something changes like the demolition of the inept NCAA.

@usc4valpo I dont see the dissolution of the NCAA as anything to fix the problem. The proposal from congress for the replacement of the NCAA is worse, and having the p5 in charge is even worse than that. The NCAA has made poor decisions in recent years, but they are still effective as the governing body of tournaments. If the NCAA goes away. So does fair units in march madness, and the issues you see with the selection committee become worse.

I do agree its about money, but players that Powell is going after are players who are looking to develop their skills so that they can make more money. At the end of the day it does come back to money, but those who want instant money right now, Powell has said will not be invited to the roster.

Good decision to get a quality education while playing basketball.  Assuming Carson also transfers to Wake, his playing time will be very limited, but Cooper should be a second or third option in scoring.

If Cooper is getting anywhere near $400k or more, than he could pay for Carson to be a walk-on at Wake.

I think @rezynezy is right on this one. Valpo can't compete directly on the arms race of NIL money - under the current structure there will always be teams with much deeper pockets that can outbid VU for top talent; they can outbid virtually all of the MVC.

The key is for VU to cultivate a reputation for developing talent, and the running two freshmen of the year in the MVC is a good start. This makes the high school seniors, non-D1 players looking to transfer up, and other D1 players looking for a fresh start put VU into the consideration set. Of course, if VU is offering $10K of NIL money and someone else offers $250K, VU will get outbid.

@rezynezy - disagree bigtime, it is the NCAA ineptness that has cause the transfer protocol and NIL mess. These idiots have come from academia and  live in an ivory tower collecting cash for a cushy job. It is time to get better leadership and rebuild. I have no faith Baker and his clown posses can fix the current problems, particularly those the mid-major schools are suffering from.

If the transfer rules do not get under control, I just see Valpo as a G-League team, and maybe considering a move to D3 should not be off the table if changes are not made.

the demolition of the inept NCAA.

Step 1 is to split off College Football as its own unrelated entity with its own commissioner.  Cut the ties so that basketball, baseball, swimming, etc are no longer at the mercy of the football money chase.

Definitely agree.  Embrace the one-and-done freshman/transfers and just be wide-eyed to the fact that if you do well at your job they WILL LEAVE.  And that reputation maybe entices the next crop of hidden gem one-and-dones. (or if we are lucky they will be 'two-and-dones')

The NCAA isn't going anywhere. Spending any much time arguing against the rules is a waste of keyboard strokes.

This is the correct answer. Compete in the MVC. Maybe win a Arch Madness tournament and get to the NCAA tournament and use that to springboard the program to continued success. Possibly the school as a whole as well.

The NCAA is a pawn and has lost power, due to academia leadership and Emmert. The rules will be set by those who the NCAA serves, that is the SEC and Big 10. Long term,  a bigger more effective organization may result from this mess. Waiting on them to establish a direction or solution is ignorant.
