Liberty is listed as a 7-point favorite.
Looking forward to seeing the newcomers and a year older Cooper. I’d like to see our defensive intensity better this year.
Valpo 72
Liberty 70
Will be interesting as Liberty plays very slow so we will see contrasting tempos. Liberty is a small team overall, so interested to see how Cooper/Ellis go down low vs. Zach Cleveland and their bigs. Lots of skill with the Flames though.

Also, the women play earlier in the day. 2 transfer guards, Maci Rhoades and Fiona Connolly, are expected to start - Saniya Jackson is likely out for the year with an ACL injury. Could be a rough start to a rough season, although hopefully there’s some improvement there. Liberty 68-56 in another slow grind in the women’s game.
Very excited for the season! Hoping for notable growth from last year to this. Liberty will be a tough, well-coached opponent, but I'm looking forward to seeing what VU can do. Hail Crusaders!

Game day!!!
Not sure what to expect this season. Did we bring in the talent to fix our weaknesses from last year?
Let’s go Valpo!
As I said yesterday the game is being broadcast nationally by Grey media and a livestream will be available on youtube. For those who want to hear Todds lovely voice, there will also be a radio broadcast as well through WVUR.
Overall this should be a great test. As others have mentioned, Liberty plays slow and methodical as opposed to Powell's fast paced gameplan. I hope to see the 3pt % increase with this game. The defense should be just as much of a steel curtain as it was against SMWC.
Liberty is listed as a 7-point favorite.
I see the line has moved to 9.5. I’m actually surprised the line is not bigger. Liberty was ranked top 20 last year in made 3s, ppg allowed, and efficiency. They are really good. I also just read that over the last 6 seasons, they have the 8th most wins in America at 25+ per season. When you compare that to Valpo, this is a really tough opener.
Will be interesting to see who plays well for us tonight. The good news is that the top performers in the “secret scrimmage” were not the top performers in the exhibition last week. So hopefully that means we have multiple guys who can have some big games. I still think we are 1 year away with next year being the breakthrough year but it all starts with growth this season and getting Stafford back (presumptively next season). I won’t use tonight as a barometer so much as I will the next 4-5 games at home as we shouldn’t be at Liberty’s level yet.

Our roster upgrades are marginal at best.

Stream looks good with the womens game ! Currently up 8-6!
I am expecting a respectable performance but have no clear idea about any of the matchups. I am hoping for the best and will be watching for any and all positives.
Feels great that the season is here.
@SP37, as for the women's team, another big loss, with transfers combining for a combined triple single. No college coach is more fortunate to keep their job than Evans.
As expected, defense is great, but the offense just cannot seem to get a good run going. Way to many uncontested misses.
Frustrating so far, not terrible but pretty close. Ellis belongs and maybe Shaw/Jeff, but who else ? Schmidt?
