Just saw that Gillespie landed with Maryland...
Belmont picks up two guards in two days.

With how many gaurds we have been talking to I am at odds as to who be concerned for. Belmont who picked up guards this quick and before March Madness is over. Or Valpo for not making any moves yet. Portal Kombat is still just getting started so I guess we will still have to wait and see.
From what I see, what Belmont picked up is nothing special compared to what they lost.

For what it is worth, rumor is that Valpo is at least looking closely at one big transfer to possibly complement Cooper: Wisconsin’s Gus Yalden has ties to the region, attended La Lumiere in LaPorte.

Redshirted this past season after high hopes coming in. Ran into some (maturity?) issues with the Badger staff.
I saw PO released an article on TVB about recruitment earlier this morning. Seems like Powell has been busy
@rezynezy Not much meat in the article to sink your teeth into, but it reflects Roger and his staff hitting the xfer portal hard. He’s been on the phone and the road since the portal opened 3/18. Roger is all about building relationships, and with only two open slots, he’s got to be very precise with his offers.
Paul does, however, make the point that, when those slots are filled, it might prompt a VU player or two to try the portal.
@vulb62 if I'm being honest. The fact we even got an update at all, let alone Roger telling us he has been on the road since the season ended is a majro step in the right direction. Lottich didn't seem to put as mich effort into recruitment, let alone update the fans on the whereabouts and process

That doesn't really make sense to me. If they don't transfer until others transfer in, our options to replace them will be slim. We should either be telling them they are a valued part of the program that can contribute or tell them they would be better off somewhere else and try to find a replacement that Powell thinks is better fit to contribute. Especially as it stands only having 2 open spots. That means we get one shot at a guard and one shot at a big, and we have to get them both right.
@rezynezy I would like to see us get the 2
Wisconsin guys, the big kid and Conner Essigian. C E has size, 6-4 or 6-5, and shooting range which could make him a valuable swingman.

To me it reads like Powell has not had time to do many formal meetings with his players as to their place on the team. He has been out of the office doing recruitment. Powell probably wants to priorities the men he has vs the men he could have. Shows commitment to his team. Things don't really ramp up anyway until after dead week on the signing front. Players are still weighing their options and coaches are still meeting with prospective athletes.
@valpo64 Looking at the things the Wisconsin kid was doing I dont think Powell is going to want him. Powell seems to be a big believer in maturity and the kid was caught multiple times being "immature" IE the situation earlier this year with one of our guys. Powell also does believe in second chances so maybe I'm overthinking it.
What I am hoping for is we get a full presser in the coming weeks. Other valley teams are getting their media releases taken care of, but this could just be a coaching carousel byproduct.
Wisconsin forward Gus Yalden enters NCAA transfer portal
Coming out of high school, though, he was a four-star prospect, the No. 115 overall player in On3’s Player Rankings for 2023, and the No. 4 player in the state of Indiana for his cycle.
this is a dude that can help Valpo!
