We lacked a threat from mid range last year. This guy seems like he drains contested mid range shots like its no body's business. Plays tuff too.
Hmmmm! I don't think any of us brought his name up as a candidate. Our radar tech must be WW 2 vintage.
@justducky Powell seems to be very hush hush with his gets. I didn't even see Devon on portal tracker as having heard from Valpo.
overall I think with how large the portal is those "heard from" posts are just not going to be reliable. The top kids and the ones getting heavily targeted by schools don't need to post to get eyes on them so it really behooves the maybe low 2nd tier to 3rd tier kids in the portal to make it look like they have tons of interest to increase their perceived value. I've heard of a couple other players coming in and I think we have not heard anything about any of them.
Not a bad get, not a great get, but a good get. Solid rotational guy. I'm whelmed.
Very solid 6’6” frame. Highlights showed many P5 opponents and he was never timid - especially going to the paint.
@valporun2004 The kid that transferred to Cornell? Andrew Ferrie spelling? Didn't he make a sweet 16 with them? Had a great senior year. Only other one I could think of. Maybe Brian Bucche (spelling), to Evansville. His name escapes me. Was he stellar for the Aces?
He looks like he can be a solid MVC rotation player. Coach Powell has already demonstrated that he can evaluate talent. If we can get 7-9 PPG from him that’s a win. No doubt our roster is better today than it was yesterday.
I’m also interested in the culture that Coach Powell is building. He seems to be targeting guys who are motivated by their faith. Hopefully that makes them less likely to transfer for NIL reasons.
@mj08 Right on the money. He made a statement about NIL and the gist of it was that while you should be able to get paid, getting paid should not be the priority. Building your brand through volunteer work and local business support is his method of gaining NIL.
I like our first "get" as we really need backcourt strength, shooting and ability to get to the rim...I still hope we are at least looking at the big kid from Wisconsin and his teammate C. Essegian.
Pretty good numbers with solid rebounding and 2 point% shooting. 3 point shooting is less certain but that wasn't his job at Maryland Eastern Shore and maybe he can recapture his freshman 44% form? FT% under 70 both seasons and his worst number is that his TOs are double his assists. I like him having 2 years of eligibility.
Will he be a sudden major impact addition? I don't know but I think I can see the team fit. Minutes per game could be an "over-under" question.
Its going to be a big jump for him going from MEAC to MVC. Completely different levels of talent, but if he was able to hold his own against some P6 opponents, I expect him to be decent at Valpo. Hopefully people show up to games to support him.
First glance...Edwards competition/replacement.
A good day for Valpo basketball!
