I promised my wife I will not go ballistic with every portal turn just to preserve domestic tranquility. But Ola was Roger’s first signing ( sigh 😔).
With Ajiboye and Manyang both transferring, I got to believe we have new bigs coming to the program. With three open slots this is getting interesting!
Or scary………
@vulb62 Whichever way you roll the dice. Our guys did not immediately leave upon the end of the season. These portal entries are most likely the result of meetings that were had this week.
Here is the other good sign: these moves are coming relatively late. Meaning no abandoning ship. These young men have discussed their status with Roger. He has laid out the situation. He offered them a playing time decision. They made an informed decision. I want to thank these guys for helping to put Valpo back on the relevancy map and I wish them all the best. And I also hope that when they think back on their journey they will remember Valpo as a special place in their lives.
No surprise on those that have entered the portal at this point, and the same will go if Edwards enters at some point. Ola showed potential in a few games, but also disappeared in many more. He and Edwards can play, but not consistent enough, and should transfer down to lower low/mid-major schools. Powell hinted in several pressers that he couldn't hit the transfer portal like he wanted to do, and it was just those that were left at that point. That indicated Manyang, Edwards, and Ola.
All a transfer means is more wiggle room in our own portal tracker.
Ola leaving would mean two opportunities gained for big men plus the one open and unfilled position which possibly could have a taker.
And to think, some questioned Jake Diebler's ability to recruit players to Ohio State. When do we add Valpo to the OSU schedule?

I much prefer a current Valpo related boom.
Same. I am sure we are in the mix for many players but landing them is going to be key and I hoping we hear at least about 1 or 2 more by the end of the week.
@valpopal Maybe with Powell as the coach now, we can tentatively get some scheduling against a lot of our former coaches. Baylor, and OSU would be good power opponents, but I think a good game all around would be to face Bryce at GCU. Mid-major program that is also basketball focused. A real test for our guys.
I stayed on Boom Alert all day but I didn't hear even a muffled thunderclap from the distance. Tomorrow I'll remove the earplugs and maybe we get a sonic explosion!
Hopefully we get some news. And I surely hope Powell wasnt hopping on a trend with his post. It is seeming to be looking that way more and more now...
Wow, Bowen Born (UNI) entered the portal today. Much different MVC next season
