Can Powell pull Shaw? Looks terrible
Does Shaw have a green light ? He takes horrible contested shots , Powell getting angry, hope he gets on Shaw( ohh and maybe the officials)?? Monegro was fouled, should’ve been and one . we can’t make shots. Same shit year after year…
@vuswim08-12 Was thinking the same thing about Shaw. Horrible shot selection.
Love that screen at the end of the half from cooper. There we go big fella!
absolutely , lay em down , we never play with that physically , it’s much needed IMOLove that screen at the end of the half from cooper. There we go big fella!
You need to call out screens, otherwise...
Other observations:
-Need far greater emphasis on team offense.
-Valpo getting killed defending a generally 5 out offense. No ability to rebound against that offense.
-Not sure how much better DePaul is.
DePaul is one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the country. Valpo is one of the best FT shooting teams in the country. DePaul is beating Valpo on the perimeter. And the team is responding by taking frantic shots from 3. Need to run the play and kick out for the 3. Not stop n pop crap.
Valpo plays intimidated...
I don’t think we’re playing intimidated at all. We just can’t make shots , this is some of the better offensive action I’ve seen. We need Stafford. We’ll be .500 or slightly below in the MVC this year… hopefully RJP can keep these guys around or it’s gonna get worse…keeping Lottich around for 6 years was a massive mistake…
The suspicion some of us had that the three-game winning streak against weak teams was not a true indication of any significant improvement by the team seems to have been confirmed today, a situation which does not offer much optimism for the conference home opener with Drake only one week away.
I wish we did not have conference play so early in the season. I do not believe we are ready. We still do not feel like a team. We have some promising individuals, just not a team.
Losing stinks but at the end of the day we were double digit underdogs on the road. Even the Drew teams struggled to beat big(ger) name opponents on the road.
I will say this though: we've got to shore things up defensively. It was an Achilles heel last year and has been a disappointment this year too.
This game tells me plenty about a realistic season expectation. While improved we are still slower, shorter and too inaccurate from 3 to compete with the top of the Valley teams. Our bunch will be losing closer Valley games but winning 8 now looks improbable.
Oh and because DePaul is about 1/2 Valley retreads, I'll venture that the Blue Demonds would be a top 5 Valley team.
Chris Holtzman is a proven coach, excellent recruiter. Yeah it didn’t work out with Ohio State, but it’s not like he had loosing teams. He’s had 5 months to assemble a team and get them to play in a system quickly. We have more individually talented pieces than DePaul with a similarly weak schedulle yet They are taking care of business from the get go and should be a much improved team in the big east. What is Powell’s offensive system? Drake will handle bus by 20-25 unless we shoot lights out next week. Improved this season, likely, but 12-15 wins appears to be the ceiling.
Our lack of height and inside presence killed us today. Big men are hard to find and we’re still looking.
This team is better than last years team. We’re not good, but we’re also not terrible. Baby steps I suppose
