Hosmer needs to make the right decision to avoid the commitment to mediocrity. Should be a no brainer.

Given how fast Fox was let go, I assume that we will hear soon one way or another. It was a brutal end to the season today.

I have been watching to see if Valpo athletics really wants to succeed rather than keep the same old approach to keep things as is.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Evans, as well as with our players.  Losing Earnest and Beyer is tough, but we have a nice core to improve on next season, with all of the injured players.

Was this her final year on her contract, or does Evans have a year or two left? Depending on that, and where Valpo sits on having the money to pay a buyout, we may see Evans back for 25-26.

No movement on this...obviously this administration is fine with losing programs...WBB will continue to be a dumpster fire and no one seems to mind....

Evans seems like a good person but the results haven't been there for some time. Despite the improvement this year we are looking at 5 straight losing seasons. This gives us a few weeks to come up for a list before finals weekend when all coaches gather.

Yes, she is.  I wish Mary all the best.  Despite her losing record here, she has two things going for her:  7 more years of experience at a high MM level and a greatly expanded coaching network. Just like Matt and Luke, she’ll land on her feet pretty quickly. Ya, know, sometimes some coaches are just better at being top assistants than the head honcho.

Now to the future.  Hosmer has to find a successful, hungry, dynamic DII (or DIII)  head coach who really enjoys recruiting AND also has a complete bag of X and O tricks.  I may be wrong, but I don’t think NIL is that great of an obstacle.

For a long time, I’ve been frustrated at Valpo’s general inability to attract great women athletes to our beautiful campus and family atmosphere. Having a daughter and three granddaughters who love sports, I know their perspective puts more emphasis on academics, community and, of course, challenge than my son and grandsons who seek challenges first. Only three women’s programs, IMO, have fully leveraged Valpo’s assets well: VB, WSO and WT (and it seems SB is opening eyes, but it’s too early to tell). Time to add WBB to that list.

Thanks to Evans for her service and attempts at turning around the program, after some rough Dorow years.  We had some early ups with the inherited talent, but many downs.  The all out 3 point shooting is not going to work in the MVC, unless you have everyone shooting closer to 35% from 3, and we've struggled with that approach and not being able to rebound as a team.  Agreed on going with a strong D2 head coach with prior D1 AC experience, that can hopefully bring a player/some players with them, similar to how softball has turned it around so quickly.

This is the correct decision and not a surprise. 7 years is more than adequate in today’s college athletics environment. Women’s college basketball is on the upswing and we need personnel to take advantage of this.

Feel for Mary as a person, as she’s exactly the type of character you’d want leading a college sports team, but obviously not a good enough head coach. She will land a nice assistant coach position somewhere at a decent mid major I’m sure, and she’s got two young kids so hopefully somewhere she can stay for a while. But the correct decision made today for sure.

Need someone to come in who can completely overhaul the team, especially the offensive scheme (note to Hosmer: DO NOT hire someone who positively mentions a 5 out offense) and is willing to be completely different than anything that has been here the last 15 years. I wouldn’t mind for Hosmer to seriously consider Jon Hill, our current main assistant, since he is really a fantastic coach I think and was probably a big reason why this season was better than last year. But I agree with those who are suggesting a proven D2/3 coach, we need someone who can turn this program around, and quickly.

Just like the men's side, the successful MVC teams have some really strong bigs on their rosters.  I assume that those players are still a premium, but when we were winning on the women's side many years ago, we went after those big bodies.

This decision was a no brainer, as the results are unacceptable.  I am glad Valpo showed competence to make this program successful.
