Whelp 14-0 , UNI has been able to get one when they need one on 3rd down. Two delay of games. Offense strength appears to be running back but we’ve come out throwing on first down multiple times.
OL has struggled with pass pro in empty
Apparently espn+ hasn't changed their graphics. Noticed quite a few c words spread throughout.
Can't complain too much. Offense couldn't do much, but Defense showed some promise against a top FCS team.
UT-Arlington has talked about football for 30 years now. They built that stadium in 1980, discontinued football in 1985, and really only host HS football games, soccer, band competitions, and various other sports, but I don't see UTA football coming back.
Watched about 80% of the game and agree with Paul’s takeaways from the VB.
Personally, I thought our run defense was above giving up 330 on the ground to another FCS team. Tye Edwards made our DBs look stuck in the mud. However second half we took away the big play.
Losing by 28 and having a a -300 yard differential on the ground shows me the coaches understand how to use clock to keep games respectable / competitive.
Defensive holding on first drive was home cooking. It would not of changed the outcome but would have taken a score off the board.
Offensively Manseray and Mann are our hopes to have a +500 season. Rowan was throwing to spots and our receivers were unable to create separations. Offensive line was better than I expected even with the three sacks.
Lastly I wonder what the opportunity cost is of playing Tyler this season heavy reps. He looked much more fluid in limited snaps and I don’t think we will have a vertical offense receiving wise no matter who is at QB.

When I last researched them restarting their football program, they made it seem like they would become a tenant of Ranger Stadium. Not sure if that improves their situation
I thought we did a pretty good job of hanging with a full scholarship team. Clearly the difference was their significant size advantage at positions like receiver, where their guys were 6'3" and our DBacks were 5'10". There running backs were also huge.
When we get Mikey back, who is a much more accurate passer, our offense will take shape.
A decent start and presumably a big pay day.
I guess "watching the film" for coaches would be of some value but I can't get much out these types of games. UNI is simply too big, in particular, and fast for a team such as Valpo. They just pushed Valpo down the field. How do you evaluate that?
Drawing any conclusions, good or bad, would be a waste of effort.
Nothing to write home about, some teams just have more toys than other teams. What can be improved is the discipline surrounding penalties. Those yards add up.

Have to agree, 24. The film thing is gonna be largely refining technique and discipline. That’s it. Conclusions have already been drawn: it was worth the buy 😎.
I would qualify, however, the “they were just bigger and faster” statements to add that, at the MVFC level, even if they were our size a 6’4”, 260# DL or the 6’0” LB or the 290# OL is also generally a step quicker and more athletic. That’s why they are at that level. We just can’t compete for those kinds of football players.

It's always a student movement at UTA. It was voted on a few years back and approved by the students to increase a fee for athletics funding, but the BoD/administration turned it down.

I actually wrote two stories home about it, thank you very much!

Yeah. The delay penalties were head scratchers. At least two of them were lining up for a punt and they weren't of the intentional type.
