With Indiana State and Oregon State winning it has to be as good a night for our rpi as possible.  Detroit and Oakland beat Big 5 teams, even Chicago State wins.  Great night.

Sagarin was #43 going into yesterday, this morning up to #40
RealTime was at 13 going into the games yesterday

A little help and no disasters...

There were only 1562 fans at Loyola's Gentile Center for the UIC cross-town rivalry game yesterday. That's pretty sad.

Quote from: talksalot on December 20, 2015, 07:31:04 AMand let the comments continue about Youngstown State's prowess.

Yeah, Michigan scored more points in _each_ half than YSU managed all game.  *sigh*

But, hey, at least they have a D1 win!  Here's looking at you, UIC...

KenPom bumped up to 28.  And defensive rating to #4, now #3 actually. Late games created a little space in the ranks, it seem #2-#4 were pretty packed together.  Now Oklahoma's a clear half a point better than us, and Purdue a half point better than them.  Paul's proposed VU-Purdue Crossroads matchup would have been sweet.

The only top-20 defensive teams not in the top 30 overall? San Diego State and Rhode Island.

Cleveland State beating Belmont hurts our RPI in the short term but helps us in the long run.

hailcrusaders

Chicago state beats WIU, who beat Wisconsin in Madison earlier this year. Parity in basketball.

How does CSU beating Belmont help our RPI in the long run? Since we play both teams home and away does it matter who won the game?

Why is the HL 15th in conf. RPI and the Summit 10th? Look no farther than the bottom of the league for the answer, where the HL has 3 teams - YSU, NKU and UIC - with worse RPI's than the lowest Summit team. How big of a difference does that make?  Simply taking UIC at 348 out of the equation would raise the HL from 15th to 12th.

NKU is an investment for the future, so they get a pass (for now). As for UIC and YSU, they don't deserve anything but a kick out the door. They are inexcusably lazy programs that NEVER contribute anything positive toward the standing and reputation of the Horizon League. The HL will never have a chance of becoming a multi-bid conference until these lazy, unemployed losers continue to live free in our basement. Nothing I hate worse than people who don't try. Nothing I hate worse than programs that don't try.

Theoretically, CSU has better opponents opponents W/L record due to the HL being better than the OVC? Probably pretty negligible.

To think the MVC was seriously considering UIC when they chose Loyola.

All of the Horizon League members will play CSU, and we'll play each of them twice, so CSU's opponents' W-L record is reflected back at us sixteen times in the "third portion" of the RPI.  So, better for them to get the win, I think, in strict RPI terms.

There's a chance that if the win would have kept Belmont over some threshold "top 100", "top 50", that sort of thing, then it would look better on the team sheet than if CSU got the win.  In the spirit that Belmont has a better shot (still 15% or so by RPI Forecast?) of finishing with a top 50 RPI.  Oakland might have the best chance of anyone (else) in the Horizon League, at 7% or so.

80% or so chance for us to finish top 50, according to RPI Forecast. SD State's going to trounce us though.  They've got something like a 95% chance of finishing top 50.  Overall their expected RPI is 30 to our 41.

wow... is that quote similar to what the Cleveland State folks said about another school in the late 1980s when they bolted from the Mid-Con... that other school was VALPO !  4-22 4-22 ...will do that to you...  everything ebbs and flows...

Apples and oranges. Valpo at that time was like a beginning craftsman struggling to learn a new trade. Today's YSU and UIC are lazy, veteran employees who retired on the job 10 years ago.

At least UIC finally got rid of Moore. YSU keeping Slocum is infuriating.

Did Valpo decision makers stumble across Homer Drew or did we see into the future and the dynasty his family would bring? Are Valpo (without the Drew family) and YSU that different? When you look at our football and women's BB programs I don't think we are that far apart as far as commitment to winning.

ValpoFan

We certainly are different. If Valpo football and YSU basket ball were the same, Dale Carlson would still have been our coach. Valpo Football and Womens bbal are struggling all right but it is not for the lack of effort. YSU basket ball is just.. YUCK!

Changing coaches does not make a commitment to winning. The budget allowed for hiring a new coach is what shows a commitment to winning.

Oregon (10-2) 72 Alabama  68 (Nice come back !)
Oregon State (9-2) 82 Quinnipiac 61

Nolan RPI at 18 after these results; Oregon State RPI 28... Oregon is 26 !  They play each other on 1/3 in Corvallis.

Nice comeback win by Oregon last night beating Alabama in Birmingham.  Alabama has some quality wins versus Wichita St. and Notre Dame and had won 5 in a row coming in to this game at a technically neutral site... but whom are they kidding, playing Alabama in Birmingham is hardly neutral.
